Thanks for the warm welcome and comments everyone, it is appreciated.
Smokeysmoo: I have a passion for messing with all things mechanical, which probably started with my first Saturday job many moons ago in a bike shop. I also did a bit of tinkering for my fellow cyclists in what was then the "Oldham Century" (if I've got the name right) when they were based in the Gibson Conveyers factory in Greenfield. (Are they still going?) My other reason, as highlighted in numerous posts by others, is that I refuse to pay money for someone else to do what quite often is a barely acceptable piece of work.
Biker Joe: The Allez Sport was one of those "in the right place at the right time". I had decided to look for a road bike as well, but preferred the idea of a better spec / quality used, rather than a basic new. I saw one for not a lot on
ebay (minus its wheels) in Exmouth. I was in Bridgwater as I look after a factory down there so a deal was done & it was mine. Spent more than i intended on it, but it does look quite smart and at a fraction of the cost of a new model.
I Like Skol: I'll keep an eye out for potential rides local to me. I Live Littlemoss so Daisy Nook is right on my door step and I can get to the canal very easily. I enjoy the canals but when you've ridden the same route a few times, the thought of some different scenery appeals.
Easytigers: I think I know the hill you mean as I used to do a lot of my training rides as a teen around Mossley & Stalyvegas. Hills & I aren't exactly the best of buddy's at the moment, at least in the upward direction, but as time goes on I'm sure we will come to an agreement.
Rickshaw Phil: The mini in the avatar is my other passion. For those with an interest,

I'll try and get some pictures of the bikes uploaded soon.
