Hi there.. just joined. I've been cycling on & off for quite a number of years. Bought a Liv road bike in 2021 and started pedalling again! Had a bad ankle break, so got a Specialized creo lightweight e bike, which I'm using mainly now, especially after an ankle replacenment last year. I did LEJOG with an organised group last year (ebike) and am hoping to join them next year to do StMalo to Nice. There's the problem: I don't really know how I'm going to transport my e bike there & back (some ferries won't allow e bikes with non removable batteries). The idea of travelling on the French trains is very offputting too. I think there are various carriers, but I've no idea which ones to try. Any ideas? Thanks

Hello and :welcome:
I've taken an e-bike on Brittany Ferries with no problem in September 2024, so you should be fine getting to / from St Malo. SNCF has no general prohibitions on e-bikes, but you'll need to book and pay for a bike space on TGVs - do this when you buy your ticket. TERs (slower, more local trains) I don't think you can book a space on, and IIRC there's hooks to stand the bike vertically.
Having a quick look on the SNCF site, you might want to break your journey when looking for tickets. It seems to try and put you on the overnight train, which may not be what you want...

Hi there..thanks for your reply. I contacted Brittany Ferries & they said that e bikes are only allowed if you remove the battery. I cant do that as mine is integrated.

So it looks like my option is Dover -Calais, then train to Gare de Nord. I really won't be able to cope with negotiating that station with luggage & my bike, by myself. I'll be almost 75 then & I want an easier way ..not lots of changes in a foreign country! It's bad enough in the UK!

But thanks anyway.😊
