Greetings, fellow cyclists!

Thought it about time I join a decent cycle forum, both as a source of knowledge, and to meet like minded people.

I haven't been cycling long, about a year and a half in earnest. My partner decided to start cycling to work on a bike she bought at a car boot sale for £25! That got me interested, and when she got a new bike, I started using her old one to commute to work myself, and it's all started from there really. Both of us do a lot of cycling for recreation and find it thoroughly enjoyable. We've been on many long distance rides, the most of which was 72 miles.

Through successive bikes, tyres have got thinner, and I seemed to have developed a natural pull towards road cycling. I had a Cannondale 400R Warrior road bike (before it was nicked unfortunately ) which was wonderful to ride; smooth, fast and so well balanced. That got me hooked! To replace it, I've just bought the 2012 Cannondale SuperSix. I wanted to get a bike that was way beyond my ability that I could grow into. I also wanted a worthy successor to my old Cannondale and I have to say this does the job! I got it Saturday and have only been out on it 3 times, all short distance below 10 miles, but it's a lush ride. Well pleased with it! Both my partner and myself are doing the London to Southampton bike ride this Saturday, which is around 80 odd miles. Should give the new wheels a good run!

Look forward to sharing experiences and knowledge with all of you as I progress to the next level!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Nice to know there's some nearby folk on here. Know of any local cycle groups, PpPete? Re: clipless, the pedals you see on the bike are just plastic courtesy pedals. I intend to get proper clip in pedals and shoes when I can.

I'm in Eastleigh today, although I'm usually a bit further north, I'm down here for work stuff. Just about to head into town to grab sarnies - the unmitigated joy of the Boots meal deal. :giggles:

I'm in Eastleigh, you're local (all round) club is www.sotonia.co.uk
Just turn up on a Sunday morning if you want to try a club run. Mrs D also rides with the club and we have quite a few female members if your other half is interested.

Just had a look. Looks like a great club! Are there club runs every Sunday? I'm doing the London to Southampton on Saturday, so not sure how much energy I'll have for this Sunday, but next Sunday should be good.

Yeah, that's about my size. Cool! What have you got in stock?

I've got 2 pairs of mtb and 1 pair of road shoes that are worn but serviceable and various road & mtb pedals spare. Could sort you out a set for 20 quid. I've also got a pair of Shimano mtb shoes that have hardly been worn so say £30 if you wanted them plus some pedals.
If you're interested I'll PM you my phone number etc. and you could pop round and have a look.

Yep, every Sunday. There's usually 4 groups and the destination and expected average speed will be called out at the start, I usually lead the faster of the 2 medium groups (60 - 70 miles at 17mph'ish with a tea stop). Numbers will depend on what else is on, i.e. this Sunday is the club championship 10 so there won't be so many on the club runs. All the info is on the website, plus a beginners guide to club runs.
