Evening all . I'm Jason and have recently bought myself a road bike for my 40th Birthday . Not much of a mid life crisis eh  I had been riding a MTB to my allotment for a few years and to the boat and decided to buy a road bike as I was loving the trips . Now I go the long way around adding a few miles to get to where I want to go .
Last Sunday I decided to see what I could do and did 45 miles in just under 2 hours . When I finished I thought I could do the trip again with ease . Probably not at the same pace I must add !
I have a few questions about diet ( fuel ) for such trips or longer ones . I work as a carpenter and joiner and basic meals as in meat and veg keep me going in a physical job . Ive tried pasta and it just does nothing for me and leaves me shaking with hunger if I eat it for lunch and go back to work where as a cheese sandwich will keep me going all afternoon .
Im not really into taking power drinks and the like I would rather eat the right food and do it that way unless the power drink is beer then im a sucker for that
Any tips ?

:welcome: to cycle chat Jason!
I find a good serving of porridge, with added fruit and/or nuts to your liking, the best fuel before a 50+ mile ride.
Flapjack, banana, lots of water, a few coffee stops  will keep you going.

But I don't do 45 miles in less than 2 hours!
I've recently been going out with a mate on wednesday evenings for 30m or so miles. You're welcome to tag along (or in front at that speed) if you fancy it. Usually about 7ish.

Hi and welcome, not there any more but I grew up in Hanworth and for about 8 years owned Hanworth Car Sales which I noticed last time I was down is not there any more.

22.5 average is racer speed if you are just out for a ride, well done you are obviously a natural athlete.

Hi Cuchilo and :welcome:.

45 miles in under 2 hours: 22.5mph+. That is a seriously quick pace!

Sounds like you need to consider going racing  (or check the calibration on your speedometer  ).

Ha ha , I used the bikes computer and my iPhone run keeper app . It's a great app that uses GPS to track you and gives you a break down of your trip at the end . My fastest mile was 37 seconds my longest 9 minutes . Top speed 37 mph . It's a free app btw .
Thanks for the offer Mark , right now my evenings are a little hectic but I may take you up on that in the future . Where do you ride ?

Err! fastest mile in 37 seconds, now at 60mph it would take a minute so about 100mph average, watch out Froomie this guy would be finished before you started.

Unless of course I have misread it somewhere.

I was just thinking the same thing. I make it an average of 97.3 mph over that mile. 66.6mph average for mile 25 as well.;)

This road bike doesn't have a 500cc engine does it?

We make it up as we go along.
Richmond park if time is a bit tight or out into Surrey if we've got more time.
