I'd go with the Decathlon Triban 3, which I'm guessing will be reduced in the sale: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-3-id_8167038.html#

Secondhand I'd go with the above or a Carrera Virtuoso/TDF - and Halfords will also discount new ones next week. My Carrera will probably be up for sale in the spring, but I'd suggest buying something newer.

eBay's got the following local(ish):

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BTWIN-ROAD-RACING-BIKE-/270877528778?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item3f118f12ca - Decathlon Triban 3 which is new (£20 del.)
Plus these Carreras:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERRY-XMA...0918936793?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item3cbffb04d9

Any of the above would probably be fine. Just note ColinJ's comment above about verifying ownership.

Thanks Guys!

I'm looking at the last bike (on eBay), it doesn't mention wheel size (unless I'm blind), should it be ok? Thanks for the ownership tip!

It was gone by the time I checked earlier - snooze you lose I guess!

I'll try the forum shortly :smile:

Phew - thank goodness for that ... I wasn't going to say this if it was you who had won the auction, but the winning bidder paid almost the new price for a used bike!

Always check the new price of something before bidding on eBay! I have actually seen people pay 20% more for something 2 years old, than for a new item - crazy!

The other thing is - that vendor had almost no feedback. I'd be very wary about sending a large sum of money to a new eBayer!

I would usually not pay more than about 50-60% of new price for anything on eBay, and less if the item was not in excellent condition.

Sam - the Carrera is currently £249.99 at Halfords but they are offering an extra 10% off that price (if I understand things correctly) if you order before Christmas - that would be £225, only £5 more than was paid on eBay for the used bike! [LINK]

Also, if you use something like Quidco you get 4% back on top - which would be another £20.

That's now cheaper than the SH one!

And since we're nice ... there's one at the Halfords in Barnsley!
