Hello there

I moved to the UK (Leeds) a couple of months ago and i'm still raising money for a good bike. Recently I've decided to cut my expenses with public transport as i think i could put that money to better use. So until i can afford something better I would like to get a road bike, preferably second hand.
New one works too as long as it's under 300 pounds.

I know I can't expect much for that amount but all I'm looking for it to get me from home to work and do climb some hills when the basketball weather turns bad.

With that in mind, I would like to ask your help. If you can point me to the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it.

I tried Gumtree for my area but the bikes are either too expensive or too beat up.
I don;t know of any car boot sales in my area.
I plan on trying a few bike shops if i can find them but I'd probably won't be able to afford their prices.
Is it possible to get a bike with monthly installments but only pay the bikes price?

Thanks for any help in advance, hope I'm not asking too much. I'm still new here and trying to get my bearings.

Have a good day!

Hi Tudor.

Welcome.

Yes there are bicycle shops that do interest free instalments - All Terrain Cycles in Saltaire are a good shop and they have a large online presence if you want to browse. Their shop is next to Saltaire train station - that's two train stops or 20 mins from where Leeds centre.

Where you from originally?

@postman: I don't mind the rain, plus I've seen plenty of people riding their bikes in the rain which I kind of liked. It's so amazing to see so many people on bikes here and not just for getting from A to B.
I am 190 cm tall so I think an XL is in order maybe?
I looked on evanscycles.com at the cheap models, 350 pounds. They look good but i must admit I know nothing when it comes to the components. I come from the mountainbike side and I'm as inexperienced as they come when it comes to road bikes.

@Moodyman: I'll definitely look into that, thanks for letting me know. I'm from Romania originally.

@Colly: Hey there! Hope to see you around Leeds sometimes.

I'm trying to speed up the process, hope I'm not being too rash but I was hoping to be able to start riding at the end of next week.

It is a long time since I have been to Recycle Engineering as well, but it would also be my first suggestion for looking for something second hand. Their web site (with directions to find them - as gv says, they are hard to find!) is http://www.rceuk.co.uk/

For buying new, Edinburgh Cycles in Chapel Allerton may be the cheapest place for decent bikes in Leeds - their own brand 'Revolution' bikes are highly regarded.

I've been to the shops that sell Sh bikes and it kind of led me to rising my budget cap. So im looking at 600 pounds now but only if i can get it in installments. Anyone have any recomendations?
