Hi folks.

Just searched for a UK cycling forum, and this place looks pretty friendly so thought I would join up.
A little bit about me - I'm Alan, 38 years old, live just south of Peterborough. Day job involves a lot of sitting with no exercise, so I decided to dust off my bike and get back out in the evenings while we have some light ones to get back in to the swing of it.
My ultimate goal is to lose some weight, and regain and retain some fitness by using my bike. The plan is that once I have built up a reasonable stamina level, I intend to commute to and from work 3 or 4 days a week which will help my goal, and save me some money at the same time.
I live in Stilton, and work in the Fengate area so my ride would be just over 7 miles each way.
The last couple of nights i have managed almost 7 miles using routes close to home so hopefully will be at alevel to use it for commuting soon (once my bum gets used to riding again).
As for the bike, its a Claud Butler Trail Ridge with hybrid tyres.
Anyway, thats me for now.

So if you see a chunky bloke in and Orange and Black Karrimor jacket who is sweating, grunting, wheezing, and panting (downhill, that is!!) then feel free to give me a nod. :bicycle:

Welcome to the forum!

And since I don't know anyone else to ask this question of... Is it true that if you make cheese in Stilton it can't legally be called Stilton because Cambridgeshire isn't included in the designated area of origin? (Apologies if you get asked this all the time!)

Thanks for the welcome.
As for the legality of cheese naming. no a clue bud, sorry. There are SO many myths about how it got its name, where it was originally made etc. All i know is that i like the stuff - which probably isnt helping my current physical state.

Al fresco - you are indeed correct. Although Stilton cheese has never been made in Stilton. Was named after where it was first sold.
Wierdest food/beverage story is that Jack Daniels is made in a dry state, i.e. you can't drink the stuff where it is made.

Thanks. Will take a cruise down there some time. Have just had a look around their website, looks a pretty good set-up. One of the lads from here has just bought a mountain bike from them and was more than happy with the service given.

Hiya Alan  another Peterborian here.
Vike's right about greenwheel cycles, its a nice setup and nice staff. Big place, makes it look empty but they've got some nice gear in there.
I sometimes pass through Stilton way (not often mind) so if i see you...:hello:

Just taken up Cycling and live in Stilton. I have just bought a Sirrus hybrid with aero bars for many good hills around here. I guess I cycle for a living as on my police bike for 8 hours of the day. We have a brilliant 10mile route from Stilton - Caldecote - Glatton - Ratcliffes - Stilton. If anyone is local and fancy a good hour blast then let me know.

Disco..I may be persuaded...Just need to avoid hills as my fixed struggles a bit on them!
