Hi Saluki
I know what you mean. I've been a regular to mid Suffolk for 30 year pounding the lanes east of Woodbridge./Debenham twice a year, Easter and autumn. I guess we are hill dodgers !

Hi Satnav
Oatcakes. Don't get me started ! I cycled past a barge on the canal one early morning and the smell of oatcakes just took all the energy out of my legs
@SatNavSaysStraightOn
Try these. I used to groom their dog and a nicer bunch of folk you couldn't meet. Their oatcakes are awesome too. We used to get them posted up to Scotland when Hubster was having cravings.

Luckily with my family still in Stoke, I'm able to buy fresh ones quite often... In fact I am in Alsager right now. :biggrin:

I live in Lightwood and work in Kidsgrove, so not far from alsager- nice long bike commute
That's not a bad commute! Lots of traffic though! What distance are you doing?

Mine is 22 miles each way, but I have to confess to only doing it 2-3 times a week and is not to paid work so I can always bale if health is not up to it... (Don't have a car to fall back to)

Hi SatNav
22 each way. That's impressive. Mine is 29mile round trip. Perversely it's longer on the bike ! Mind you I travel along the canal once I hit Stoke and then all the way up through Westport lake to Harecastle Tunnel and then round the corner into Bathpool park so it's a pleasant ride

I do it 4 days a week and use the car journey on the 5th day to bring in provisions ie clean towel, bananas and apples, milk for the week along with clean shirts and take the empties home

Works out quite well. Seemed to have shot myself in the foot over the last couple of years. All the people I've encouraged to cycle in now means there is a bit of a race to get to the shower first. Oh well

Hi Bryony

I went to Ramsgate with work some years ago at the water treatment plant, forget its name (Weatherlees Hill - just looked it up on google)

I was working with the engineer there and after a while he tells me that working late one night in the control room he saw a legion of Roman soldiers marching through the wall and out the other side !!!!

Now at this point I thought should I be trusting my life to this guy, bearing in mind I was working with electricity at the time !

Welcome to CycleChat from South Gloucestershire.
I passed through Stoke-on-Trent recently, on a journey from Shrewsbury to Sheffield, however I shall refrain from passing judgement. :welcome:
