Earlier this month I picked up a Carrera magnesium frameset, made by Merida. It's all cleaned up BUT there's a problem:

Basically the drive side has a threaded bottom bracket shell / insert, into which a standard BSA 68mm bottom bracket can go. Great ... and it looks like this:

But ... the non-drive side Shimano part has fused with the threaded shell / insert and I can't get them separated. I don't want to remove the other side, then work out what I have, as a magnesium frame is fragile. The Shimano insert has little on it except the usual BC1.37 68 AK and I'm guessing it's from an Octalink bottom bracket.

Does anyone know where I can source a threaded shell / insert to go in the non-drive side please?

Shimano BB-RS501?

The BB-RS501 mentioned earlier would get you parts 6 to 9. There's a few uk retailers that do them, though none of the better known ones. As well as on ebay, £14 - £24 range.

The RS501 being a newer replacement for the discontinued RS-500.

It looks like it has previously been assembled with copper anti seize so some heat on the outer might get it loose.
Or, if you could use an Octalink BB again the non drive side seized part could simply be reused.

Both of those were my thoughts. I'm bunging it in the oven ...

... and if that doesn't work the build will run with something Octalinked.

would the octalink seized part take a square taper BB , i dont know if they are the same size but if its only the shell i dont see why not ?
apparently petrol based solvent like mineral spirit might help if you soak it all in a tub for a while to let it get in there ?
