Bum etc comfort comes with practice, minor tweaks to not only saddle but reach & bars too can help massively. As you get into it you may want to look at different saddles, Brooks leather ones can last a lifetime and be armchair comfortable once broken in, though some people just don't get on with them at all.
Please try and never feel self consious about size, you could be Bradley Wiggins on a bike and some knuckledragger will shout something stupid or derogatory, the odd imbecillc comment is an occupational hazard of riding a bike, we all get them.
Frankly f*ck em, they aren't worth a drop of sweat off your brow let alone worrying enough to be self conscious.
