You are right green: Without the Japanese bombing the American ships at Pearl Harbour, would the Americans have entered WWII when they did?

Not to the day, but the idea that America wouldn't have joined the war unless directly attacked is a bit silly. Roosevelt knew the US would have to enter at some point; he didn't like the idea of a Nazi dominated Europe any more than we liked the idea of being dominated, much less the noises coming out of Japan. Lend-lease were the first steps towards mobilisation, all he needed was a justification to give the isolationist American public.

Conspiracy theories get a far as it was known about the planned Japanese attack on Pearl beforehand, and that aside from shipping out the carriers it was allowed to proceed unimpeded to create just that justification.

Had Hitler never declared war on the US would we have won? seriously without the backing of the US could we have invaded europe and conquered the third reich?

If a lone british bomber hadn't accidentally bombed a german city Hitler would not have been outraged and ordered Goering to concentrate on our cities rather than our airfields ("two can play at that game") its widely believed our air force would have crumbled if they'd have kept up the campaign against our airfields. some believe this was a calculated attack to force germany to attack our cities and thus free up the pressure on our airfields at the expense of the civilian population. who's to say?

Had sonar not been invented, could we have stopped the U boat fleets?

what if hitler hadn't put the kibosh on the German nuclear program?

and that's just some tiny stuff from ww2.

Who knows it would have been a bloody long war though.
Edit: Actually we probably would have won it thanks to the Soviets, but it would have been longer and bloodier.

You've got that the wrong way round. A German plane got lost in cloud and Jettisoned it bombs over London, we bombed Berlin in reply and Hitler in a fit of pique ordered the switch to bombing cities.

Sonar (or ASDIC ) had been round since the 1920's, it wasn't a new technology, RADAR on the other hand was and the Germans never really understood how important it was.

Thankfully there were plenty of other programs he killed/delayed.

yeah thats what i mean if asdic/sonar had never been invented what would we have done? hydrophone tech came a long long way tho at about the same time.
and yes sorry, German accidental drop caused us to bomb them which cause them to bomb us. although initially hitler was dead against the bombing of british cities, he had no compunction against other nations.
did you know btw that the sound of Asdic hitting the hull doesn't sound like the familiar "Ping" in the movies. actually sounds like pebbles thrown against a tin bath.

Depends on the frequency the sonar operates but generally the ping is what short range sonar sounds like. Pebbles/tin bath is the sound of cavitating propellers.

Radar was discovered by accident, by an engineer doing signal strength measurements on a BBC medium wave transmission.

The killed/delayed issue applies to both sides. The much delayed jet engine being one of the British gems. Overall the WW2 score for bad decisions is almost certainly a decisive win for Mr Hitler.
