Whilst those more knowledgeable than me try to fix it, can you plug an Ethernet cable into your laptop and into a port on the router?

This assumes you have (a) a cable (b) an Ethernet port on your lapdancer and (c) an Ethernet port on the router.

If the imac is sharing it's internet via wifi, you should be able to see that. And connect to it.

I think that's what I'm doing. Bear in mind that I am an Apple thicko, and had barely heard of an Airport before. The Virgin router and the Airport are connected to each other, and the iMac recognises two connections (excluding the neighbours etc). I have passwords for both of these, and the problem is the same on both of them.

What are the symptoms you are getting i.e. I know you can connect to WiFi so what happens when you try to open a website ?

Just the standard "server not found" page. My little wifi icon on the bottom right bears a hazard symbol, and the pop-up states "Currently connected to JC Wifi - No internet access. The signal is good.

I don't have one with me. An ethernet cable, that is, not a lapdancer.

(if there isn't one, then you won't be able to share the internet from it)
There isn't one. The sharing tab on the iMac suggests that it is sharing the connection from the Wi-Fi network, but the tick-box options underneath indicate that it will share to computers using ethernet, firewire or bluetooth, but there's no Wi-fi option. If I'm currently attempting to connect via the iMac, can I bypass it and connect directly to the router?

This is what you get for having a crappy windows laptop:tongue::biggrin::whistle:

How's the AirPort connected to the router. If it's by cable, disconnect it's useless arse and use the cable. In fact, disconnect it's useless arse anyway. Also try deleting your network connection in windows and getting it to search for another one once you've disconnected the useless AirPort.
