You can't share a wifi connection via wifi, so that's not going to work. There isn't one. The sharing tab on the iMac suggests that it is sharing the connection from the Wi-Fi network, but the tick-box options underneath indicate that it will share to computers using ethernet, firewire or bluetooth, but there's no Wi-fi option. If I'm currently attempting to connect via the iMac, can I bypass it and connect directly to the router?
This piece of advice appealed to me, but it didn't work. Same problem, except by cable instead of wireless. However, bypassing the Airport thingy didn't seem to make any difference to the connection itself (WTF is it supposed to be for, BTW?), so it's back to your earlier advice and @jefmcg's about the router and this permitted MAC address thingy. How would I go about getting the router to say yes to my little laptop? How's the AirPort connected to the router. If it's by cable, disconnect it's useless arse and use the cable. In fact, disconnect it's useless arse anyway. Also try deleting your network connection in windows and getting it to search for another one once you've disconnected the useless AirPort.
...and use their wifi. Lots of pubs have it.I'd just **** off down the pub.

so you are back to the router, and sorting out what's keeping you out.
Sorry![]()
Really. Hmm, normally you only need to enter the mac address for wifi. If you're connected by cable you don't. Routers may vary but I'm suspecting your laptop. Make sure your wifi, on the laptop, is switched off or disabled. This piece of advice appealed to me, but it didn't work. Same problem, except by cable instead of wireless. Go to the start button in windows and type 'cmd' then hit return. A black box should appear. Type ipconfig /release
when it's finished scrolling, type ipconfig /renew
Then try again.
I don't want the laptop, it doesn't work. All done? good, now Crax owns you laptop and possibly your soul
I'd just like to say that this is making my hob extractor thread look fascinating
