Anybody who advocates Cornish Pasties for a Queen's Award for Industry needs either a taste-bud transplant or help from a mental help professional.
How about:

Marmite
Scotch
Morgan cars
JCB
Quad amps

I tend to "buy british", from the local farm shop, when it comes to food - fruit and veg in particular.

The mind boggles when I go to buy a pack of apples and it says, "product of Uruguay" (or wherever) - and they tend to be the most bland, insipid, watery, tastless things on the planet. The thing that really makes the mind boggle is that when you step out of one particular supermarket near me, there is a large apple orchard just over the car-park fence ...

Bromptons aren't totally British made
no, but the craft end is here, and that's good enough for me

+1 To buying best value and if it's British then that's a bonus and all the better.

I came across ShuttVR.com a while ago, Yorkshire based and young - a cycle clothing company now doing a range from caps, to a polo to longs to a range of jerseys and more - since then have come to know them and found they have it made in factories in the north. One factory wrote them a letter thanking them for an order cos it helped keep the factory open a couple of Christmases ago.
....

I really rate ShuttVR - I've got three of their ladies jerseys and have ridden all my Audaxes and most other rides this year in them in all conditions bar the worst winter cold (when I swop to a Foska jacket). They're sewn in Cleckheaton too - not too surprising as there was always a big textiles industry around that area - between the cotton on the Lancs side and wool on the east and carpets to the south. Woolen and knitted clothes for brands like Jaegar were made there until relatively recently so there was some skilled locals.

Britain is one of the leading manufacturers in luxury yachts which employs thousands of people in the UK.

I also seem to recall that the beautiful 4 tonne hot-forged copper canisters for disposal of spent nuclear fuel in Sweden and Finland are actually made in Sheffield - Forgemasters. Seems odd with Swedish industry and all....

Ahh, the same Sheffield Forgemasters accused of making the Iraqi Supergun? Nearly an export success

My last period of employment involved working with manufacturing companies in Pendle. Companies I visited on a regular basis made such things as-
Aircraft seats
Aircraft engines and parts for RR, Pratt and Whitney and new multi role fighter aircraft. Parts for the VC10 [still flying]
Locking bolts for the Shuttle. [not now I suppose]
Chassis's for these Drones employed in war zones.
Huge range of drugs.
Cycle racks. [Pendle Engineering].
Saddlebags. [Carradice]
Bike parts. [Hope]
Guns for paintball.
Industrial buildings.
Truck suspension systems.
Motorcycle Disc brakes.
Train doors [for the german market]
Car navigation systems.
Textiles.
Auto parts.
Above is just a very small example of what is still manufactured here. All is not lost.

Not really aware of Derb or Staff oatcakes, must look out for them!

The Derbyshite comment was a little uncalled for, most of the county is rather nice. Masson Mills outlet is shite mind.

it was about the oatcakes. not the county. althought the bits i have had the misfortune to visit did warrant that description.
