So, what's an elf?

A year on flats to 1.5 years of clipless back to flats for the last year on my road bike made zero difference to my average speed (I'd tell you what it is but I very much doubt you could handle it). I also never had a clipless moment, nor has my foot ever slipped of my studded flats.

The Spitfire Mk 1 was slightly inferior to the Me109E (alright Bf 109E if you want to be pedantic).
Edit: the Messerschmidt's cannon through the propellor hub was useful. The Spitfire may have been slightly faster with a better turning circle, but that carburetta problem is what tips it for the 109. Also that gylcol tank possibly could have been better positioned.

OTOH: I hear many Me 109s were written off because they crashed on landing. The undercarriage was too narrow. The Spitfire had a narrow undercarriage too, but apparently not as bad. Visibility out of the Me109 cockpit does not great. I don't know if that's another advantage for the Spitfire. The Me109 had quite a limited range, although that's true of the Spitfire too.
