The Force Awakens was disappointing over-hyped tosh caught half way between a reboot & remake, Disney cashing in on an old franchise that actually ended in 1983. At least Harrison Ford had the guts to have himself killed off.
The original Star Wars trilogy, although fun for kids are actually pretty terrible films and are only so beloved of my generation (I was born in 1977) because of a sense of nostalgia and an aversion towards growing up.

As I mentioned elsewhere this morning, Fawlty Towers wasn't funny.

I was surprised when I watched the whole lot again a couple of years ago how dated it seems now. I tried to get my son to watch it but it entirely failed to amuse him. Maybe it's a generational thing.

I still find it funny though.

I have often thought that SW would have worked as just one film. Kill off Vader at the end, blow up the Death Star and hey, nicely self-contained story. I was knocking on 14 when I saw the original. Good fun, but dated now. New movies are just going over old ground albeit with bigger budgets.

My son (age 6) finds it hilarious, but unfortunately, he started to enjoy insulting people in Basil Fawlty style a bit too much- really creatively it has to be said, but other people don't get the references, so we had to restrict access...

I don't find it at all dated, apart from the odd line - one in particular - that you just wouldn't get now. I haven't watched it for a while, but I have no doubt I would still find it very funny. Interestingly though, I too tried it on a bairn, who found it as funny as a trip to the dentist. 'This is horrible,' she said, 'It's all about embarrassment and humiliation.' She's right of course. Hilarious!
