The Hobbit was a better book than The Lord of the Rings.

I did enjoy the Lord of the Rings, but I thought The Hobbit was genius.

Do you remember what Margaret Thatcher said in response to the European Commission President Jaques Delors' who wanted more control for the European Parliament in 1990 ?

It's like he wrote The Hobbit, then somebody told him it was good, so he got all excited and thought he could improve it by dragging it out into six books worth* of tedious drudgery.

Peter Jackson did the opposite. Turned six boring books into three pretty good and well paced films, then got ideas above his station and turned one well written snappy little book into three** awful films.

*I know what you're thinking but it's six books in three volumes.
**The third one might be alright, I don't know. The first two were bad enough to put me off going to see it.
