I'm probably one of the long-term regular cycle chat members. As such, I pay the annual fee to suppress adverts. So apart from any snippet you can post into a normal thread, I would not see any advert.

The non fee users are probably occasional users and any adverts may not reach the target audience.

Best wishes to Mrs M and her business venture.

As a long standing member you are allowed to advertise your (or your wife's) business in your signature.
I'm pretty sure there's someone on here advertising their sister's B&B in his signature!
The trouble is that signatures don't get displayed on phones in portrait mode, which is probably how a majority of people access the forum now?!

Nobody will notice, look at or even see a sig at the bottom. It may however help having links back to a website but it also may hinder the SEO.

I wouldn't bother. Either do proper advertising or don't. And only advertise on a place that has a high number of relevant potential users to the product. I'd advertise cycling stuff here (if I had such a business). I wouldn't advertise much else.

I imagine the ads are from a 3rd party system.
Edit - a quick check shows GoogleLeads, Google syndication and AdsbyGoogle.
There is also skimsources but am unsure if that deals with ads.

Essentially, I think most site use a revenue share 3rd party system.

I think the old duffers on here are the perfect target audience. Some of them have wifes. Many of those wifes feel chilly and will require Christmas presents..

Possibly. A site owner will either outsource all advertising or charge based on the number of monthly visits. If the latter you'd need to decide how much you'd pay for each view based on how many fit your audience, how many don't remove ads and how many are likely to convert.

If it is, as you are alluding to, winter clothing, then this is an incredibly crowded market and your yearly advertising budget will be less than what the big guns pay in an hour. Your ( or your wife's) best bet is pushing hard on social media, joining as many spaces to promote your (eg Instagram) accounts and spread the word that way. If there's any unique selling points (handmade, certain style etc etc) then post hard in the places where such things are discussed/shared.

I suspect a place like this, the site owners simply outsource all advertising to a 3rd party where advertisers pay per click and they don't get involved in what is shown.

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
Create a load of extra logons and keep replying to threads with posts praising her products, with a tenuous link to the thread subject. "Never mind which chain lube, it gets chilly in my garage, and when working on my bike I always keep warm with knitwear from MrsMickle", "Pog looked a little cold in that 50km breakaway victory, I really think he should get some leg warmers from MrsMickle" Stuff like that.

Do people actually notice and read advertisements? There are perhaps ten companies whose advertising attracts me, the only one I ever notice online is Lusso, the rest email me.

Any other advertising I screen out without giving it a thought. Bypasses me completely. I wonder how effective your wife will find it and if advertising on a low traffic specialist site is worth it.

I had a browse. You may get a Xmas sale but it won't be bedsocks. my wife regards them as an abomination and would rather have cold feet.

Good afternoon,

To me and of course this isn't my site but that seems a bit tall at about a third of the screen height.

The Temu ads are much shorter and wider...... and also occasionally feature Sam Fox.

However I only see the signature with this ad if I log in, otherwise I see

This is on a desktop not a mobile.
