It's great to hear about good driving. I met a few exceptionally good drivers recently -- even exchanged waves on a few occasions.

I'm extremely fortunate to be surrounded by very considerate drivers. I would estimate less than 1% gets close and most wait for a safe passing point. The downside for me is that ones that don't seem to care are either HGV or tractors, of which there are a lot of on my commute. The tractors with the assortment of ploughing, seeding, cropping, irrigating attachments are always worrying!

Good and bad drive all types of vehicles. IMO if another 'give cyclists as much room as a car' campaign was run again, it would improve things massively.

A lot of near misses are down to ignorance on the drivers parts of how much room is adequate.

Whoever she is, she certainly covers the ground. She was in Norwich on Thusday and did the exact same for me.

Unlike the ar$e in the Metro who passed me just a couple of minutes before while I was holding (what I thought was) good primary despite a car coming the other way. Managed to catch up with him a mile or so later, while he was still waiting in a traffic queue and had a word with him about it. It was a polite word by then as I had since calmed down a bit.

Wasn't there and wasn't red. May have been the colour that Rover called Kingfisher. Turned out to be a fairly young chap - I was expecting a purple-haired granny.

Maybe it is metro drivers that we should look out for. Anyone stupid enough to buy one is too stupid to drive well...

The vast majority of motorists aren't out to get us when we're out there cycling. The problem is that the few who are motorised morons can use their tonne or more of metal moving at speed to kill and maim oh so easily. So that when a problem occurs, the potential for it to be a serious problem for the more vulnerable road user (cyclist, pedestrian) is very high indeed, even though the reality is that cycling (and walking) is very, very safe the vast majority of the time.

Can't be bad, I even had a mundano sit behind me for 3 pinch points on Manchester Road (Cheadle) for about 400 yards - I thanked them.... then passed really wide.... what's going on...........

I always smile at the number of motorists who actually do give way to me on my bike when I meet them coming the other way in narrow streets with cars parked both sides. It's the exception who tries to push past. Most of the time, for every occasion where I'm the one who pulls into a gap to let them pass, there's a motorist who does the same a day or two later.

There are some sensible people about.

On a slightly different note, there was a wheelchair user on the cycle side of the two way path today, and he moved across to let me past. I smiled and him and mouthed thank you and he looked completely blank. Then I realised I had my buff pulled up over my mouth and it must have looked like I just stared at him, doh!

Dont worry, we just use it for arsing about in the field !

Most drivers are ok, they dont want to hurt anyone, dont want to damage their car and dont want the aggro.

Some on the other hand, dont look, take risks in the name of making progress at your expense.

Some are agressive Alpha's (of both sexes) and cant bear to give any consideration to someone on a push bike, when they are in their 5 series.

Some are pond life scum who see us as a bit of fun, an opportunity to make their own existince less tedious by picking on someone temporarily comparatively vulnerable to them, like a cruel kid with a Mouse.

Some are drunk, drugged or on medication

Some are too old to drive, many are too stupid, a lot are too distracted

worryingly, one of them is me !

I think its a case of never trusting them one iota and not being surprised when they do something stupid but being suitable gracious when they are considerate, thus making their day more pleasant and passing on good vibes.
