Right. I'm getting one of those for my toaster.

Oh wait. I don't have a toaster.

Thanks. Well, the wires I'm currently using are ones I just cut off an old pair of Panasonic speakers that go with a midi system I've no longer got. They're just skinny copper cables and seem to be doing ok so far.

There is quite a bit of echo generally on all vocals, I don't know if that's the production on the tracks or something to do with the sound processing on the computer. (at present, all music routed through the motherboard soundchip)
That went right over my head:dry:
Happy Hi- Fi day^_^

I am suffering from a bad attack of schadenfreude right now. A friend who has more money than he knows what to do with has bought a top-end cd player and speakers. Just the cd player cost £8k, (eight thousand pounds) for a cd player on its tod.. The set up is so expensive they almost come round and change the cds over for you. For that money I'd expect the band to be there as well. The cables are like something that they run across the Hudson to power New York.

The really bad news is that it does not work properly. It skips bits and sometimes just stops altogether. They are trying to fix it.
I used to have a similar looking Telefunken one that I used as a practice valve amp for the guitar. It went up in smoke!

When cassettes became popular you could get the portable reel to reels for nothing, and some of them were lovely looking.

Whoops, are we back in the nostalgia thread again?
I did likewise as a bass amp. The little speakers were not so impressed....

Dad collects and restores old radios, I wonder why he's never done likewise with his old Telefunken?

Good old nostalgia, can't beat a good valve amp.

I have messed about and wasted money on hifi for years when I was younger. The component that I have always kept since buying is my Arcam Alpha 9 amplifier, great amp. I recently picked up a cheap cd player off ebay. A Cambridge Audio Azur 340C, this sounds brilliant. Amazing what you can pick up for minimal outlay. As other people of mentioned I would never waste money on exotic speaker cable anymore.

I used to work in the audio industry and had a conversation with my M.D. once about expensive signal cables. To say that those cables prevented the mangling of audio signals was one thing, but could somebody please explain how they restored the signals mangled by passing through the rest of the recording/broadcast chain?

by the way, make sure your hearing is tip top too ;)

my hearing isn't fantastic (but i'm not near deaf or anything), so i'm more than happy with mp3 sent wirelessly to a budget separates hifi. a friend has all the valve amp malarky, and waxes lyrical about it. can't hear what's so good about it, so why waste money when i can't tell the difference?
