Yeah, I had great fun testing out how nimble the big bruit is & this twit in a volvo followed me, I think he ran out of fuel.

Seriously though, with stop & go cruise control plus an active anti-collision system it's actually quite hard to tailgate another vehicle or drive into something in the 5er. Say I'm cruising along at 30mph (on CC or by throttle) & someone pulls out. If I'm close enough the vehicle detects I'll need to brake hard to avoid going into it the car will start to brake for me aiming to get to 0 mph about 1m away from the vehicle that's just pulled out. As the vehicles speed increases the system will constantly re-evaluate where that 0 mph point is & reduce the braking to match. Apparently the same thing happens if one is to try charging up to the back of someone, you get to this point where the car won't let you get any closer at a given speed, if the speed drops then the physical distance between vehicles is allowed to reduce as the car is always aiming to be about 1m away from the vehicle in front when you come to a halt.

Annoying as it is next time it might be an head case with F'all to loose and at the extreme find a knife in your chest... Ill never understand this urban warrior attitude. Just ignore the peanuts it ain't worth it.
Do you apply this logic to every bullying peanut you meet in every situation you meet them in?

All you can do is win the small battle, you can never change him. He wanted to intimidate you, you decided to play his game and so he dragged you down to his level. I know it's difficult at the time, but derision is a powerful tool.
Must try derision the next time WVM reverses into me, drives over my bike and then headbutts me, I'll let you know how it works out.

Go on, tilt your head!
I think what doesn't help is how apparently quick you were to shout/boast/talk about it on the forum... Almost as if that was the motive for your reaction in the first place.

I own two BMWs (and an Audi) but I would never behave like the beema driver (or you) did. Beema drivers aren't the common denominator here, stupid people are!

Really? Show me where I broke the law or endangered anyone.
You contravened HC rule 147 for sure.
Although you maintain that the quality of his driving remained his responsibility, this argument would not stand up in court if your game had led to a serious accident. The Defence for BMW man would insist he was being harried, and access ANPR records to verify this.
I am glad some of your previous responses indicate you may see this was not as hilarious as you initially suggested.
I am also glad you did not get a unilateral backing from cyclechat.

BMW driver was a twat, all agreed.

What you did was intimidation and bang out of order. Following a driver for 50 minutes FFS.

Put the boot on the other foot. A cyclist filters/cuts up a motorist which we frequently do and they get followed for 50 minutes. Can you imaging the legitimate outcry there would be.

In between here and there
So what was BMW mans intention when he anchored on in front of an old Volvo having aggressively overtaken it? To shoot up and make the (probably pre-stereotyped driver of the old Volvo) think he was about to take a pasting? Two wrongs don't make a right and all that but he got what he deserved.

Both are examples of unnecessarily escalated road rage though... what would Mickle have done if the BMW had called the Police on a hands-free and reported his number plate and given an ongoing commentary to the operator which would have been recorded, or if there had been a serious accident, would he have driven away or stayed to be a witness, with all the repercussions that that would have brought to him? With the BMW driver's word against his, I'd now count my blessings and put it down to experience.

The Costa Clyde rain magnet.
I don't know, when I read things like this I wonder if it would just be simpler for the men to meet up for a pint, lay their dicks on the table and find out for certain which one is bigger.
"We're gonna need a bigger table!"

I have been followed by a car when I was on the bike, no idea why.
Went around the block twice to make sure I wasn't imagining it all.
But stupid of the driver to attempt to follow a bike in town as lots of places I can go where they cannot.

Personally think the BMW driver got what he deserved, he thought he could bully and intimidate someone and then when he thought that the other person was going to do him some harm, he panicked. Next time he will think twice about doing it.
It is all very well and good being brave when you are behind the wheel of a car but you can't always be in it.
