There's a hill in Richmond Park?

From memory, more of a bump, not something as a kid I would have come off the big ring for. Mind you it is 25 years since I last rode around there.

I know hills are no less steep in the dark, especially not Dark Hill, but there's something about climbing at night that changes the whole business of getting uphill. I'm still not sure what it is exactly - something about darkness dimming your awareness of speed and incline, perhaps, and maybe these make you choose the best gear for your legs without anybody seeing how slowly you're going. But, as we near the equinox, a night ride up a hill or two might be worth a try.

You know , you have a very good point there . I don't look at the hill i am climbing ( if i know it ) . I look at the road ahead . Yes i look out for traffic but not at the scale of the hill .
When i do look for the top i am surprised at how close to it i am and then of course just sprint to the top rather than thanking god this nightmare is over and coughing up a lung

I'm more of the coughing up a lung persuasion, I've discovered. I don't have the time to do any long runs at the moment so I've been popping out to do a few reps of the hill in Greenwich Park on the heavy bike. Following a recent conversation with walkers (I'll talk to anyone when I'm on a bike) which ended up with me choking when I laughed, I decided that I should maybe wait for it to get dark before I projectile vomit the contents of my lungs.

But, that's by the by - as the nights draw in, it's worth a try. Besides, you might not have the choice...;)

Just got a reply back to my text and we are going to do a local loop at lunch time . I run a busy workshop so getting out is hard for me also .
I think i will show him my rides / nice roads and extended rides . That way he can do them when he wants without any pressure .

I've removed the personal tit-for-tat; excluded one member from the thread and given the other a warning point for the personal abuse. No more please (put each other on ignore if that's what you need to do).

Thanks,

We did the park again today and although he stopped before and after it i told him he wasn't stopping on the hills and kept with him on them . He made it around the park woooooooooooohoooooooooooo !
I tried to give him some tips on climbing but i can only tell him what i do and that may not be best for him but getting on the tops and using core muscles seemed to help .
Telling him that he was cruising at 17mph and that if he can do that then climbing hills is just in his head also helped a lot but i could see his legs where about to pop .
His legs really are killing him and still hurting after our last ride on Sunday . He wasn't so out of breath this time though and is keen and that's the main thing .
