Well just back after 10 days in Mallorca. Fantastic and 3rd trip there this autumn(!). Some awesome rides as ever.
Now looking to head to Calpe in a weeks time. Got to love retirement.

Do you take your own bike or leave one there?

I've been to Mallorca 9 times over last 3 years and previous 7 times hired when there. Now I have my own bike box so take my own with me. Works out much cheaper but it's also much nicer to ride own bike that I know fits perfectly etc.

To go with our trip up the East Coast of the USA (Washington DC, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Niagra Falls, Boston, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York) in March; we’ve just booked to see Vegas / Nevada / Scottsdale area in August. We’ve been to San Fran, San Diego and LA before. And touched on Vegas. But feel there’s a lot more to see in that area…….

Take your wallet stuffed with cash, Vegas has got extremely expensive!
Although of course money may not be an issue

Recently went to Sorrento for 10 days, not overly impressed and I won't be back.

Why ?

The area is a dump, same with Naples. The old town is very pleasant, except for traffic. Even in October it was rammed , so we ventured into town on the less busy 'rainy' days. We walked at least five miles a day so covered a lot of ground. Most locals seem to be crammed into dilapidated apartment blocks all along the coast - we took the train to Pompeii - again the local areas are run down, the trains and stations a tip, but at least they run.

Pompeii was hugely impressive place - we had a guided tour for two hours then spent another three hours wandering about.

Wasn't that impressed with Capri - again massively over populated with tourists. We got off the boat and walked to find a quiet beach so MrsF could have a swim, then we walked up the hill to the town and found a quiet bar just outside the town for lunch. 60 euro for two coffee's, a sandwich and a salad.

Traffic, my god. It's bad. We were two miles away from the main square, but the traffic noise went on till 2 am, then started again around 5am - didn't get much sleep. Scooter riders are a nightmare. Drivers of cars/trucks are good - they will stop to let you cross at a crossing, but the scooters don't - you can be 3/4 the way across the road, and a load of scooters would undercut the car and not stop. There aren't many pavements and it's not a good place if you have mobility issues.

Positives, hotel was nice and in a fab location, and we had a wonderful view over Sorrento and out to Vesuvius. The cleaner was brilliant - super clean room, so we gave her a good tip.

Speaking to people since I've been and guests on holiday, they all said it's a bit of a dump - no-one told me before and I was expecting it to be much nicer. They said, 'good job you haven't been to Naples then'. There is quite obviously a big difference between those with money, and everyone else.

I was expecting a more relaxed holiday. It wasn't. Noisy, busy, no beach, insane traffic.

My partner wants to go to Amsterdam in January. I'm not keen on going away anyway, but I can probably handle a short break. I'm guessing it will be cold

April is good for the Tulip fields. Loads to see and do, but pre book Anne Frank's house and any museums as they book up weeks in advance. We booked Anne Frank's house as soon as the bookings opened six weeks before we went. We could only get a weekday visit at around 8pm. Trip adviser was great for searching out some fantastic restaurants. We found a fabulous steak restaurant and a Thai - again pre-booked as they get busy.

Does a night in Manchester count - off to see Howard Jones at 'The Bridgewater' on Thursday and staying in the Midland Hotel - works out far less hassle to stay over and about the same as a taxi there and back.
