Hollowtech BB daft question.

Has Shamino changed the diameter of the Hollowtech 2 BB or are there two options?

I ended up buying a mountain BB for a road crank and it is also a smaller diameter than my Hollowtech 2 tool, so I couldn’t fit it, have now ordered a road BB but now thinking I also need to buy a new Hollowtech 2 tool?

My last HT2 BB was too small for the tool, but came with an adapter to take up the gap between the bearing and the tool. Looked like this:

yeah just can’t believe I missed this info, wondering if the mtb are meant to be smaller than the road, or they changed them all to the smaller diameter?

Picking the new BB up tomorrow, but now think I may have to wait and order a new BB tool or adapter too, mine didn’t come with the smaller adapter…embarrassing!

I've purchased two MTB Hollowtech BB's recently, both Deore XT. Only one of them came with the adaptor ring that @lazybloke mentions, included in the box.
Seems to be a bit hit and miss if you get it or not.
