I bought a cheap paint sprayer. There is more paint loss but it's a bit quicker and easier on the arms!

yes that's sensible. One does get a lot of overspray if you CBAd to cover things up like me. We have some very nice grey dotted windows in our garden room from when we sprayed the shed

Sounds like a productive day despite the setbacks! At least you managed to get the skirting boards painted and dried—always feels good to make progress, even if the weather slows things down.
