Our house is called Summat ( I forget) Croft as the former owner was Scottish. Despite being a large modern detached brick house that clearly isn't in Scotland.

My wife's family have a road named after them in Luxembourg (Rue de la Kersch) because of her great grandfather who was the first socialist Mayor of Luxembourg and good all round egg.

I've seen a few houses named "shiralee"
an aboriginal word meaning burden

I used to be so embarrassed when I lived at home our house was called Salad Days! Now it is rumoured it was called that because it was the first film my parents saw together, the unfortunate thing is that my father was a wholesale greengrocer. I mean how do you explain a name like that to people....

Well, it's not actually the name of a house, but it is a name on a sign on a house and it always makes me titter. There are a couple of rows of houses just the other side of Heptonstall village making up the hamlet of Slack. Slack Top is at one end. The gorgeously named Slack Bottom is at the other !

I live in "The Old Chapel" it was a Chapel before I converted it. I dont have a name plate outside cos it is fairly obvious.

I hate the couples name houses like Bertfreda that you can get endless versions of.

Near me is a rather shabby, moss covered house in the shadow of some trees called "Rising Damp". Probably not too good if he wants to sell it.

Some years ago I rented a flat in a block called Cleveland Flats which sounded rather down market so I just called my address Cleveland Place - all the post got to me OK.

Round from my mums there is a house number 20 which they write in Roman numerals. I wondered if it was a brothel when I first saw it.
