How are custom frame builders dealing coping with supply chain issues?

Well, typically they don't supply chains. So no issue.

Ha ha ha ... ha ... er ... I'll get my coat.

Can you supply a link to any custom frame builders?

They probably carry a fair bit of tubing in stock, but don't forget custom frames usually have a lengthy wait. Best option is to phone as I bet they only have enough stock for paid orders.

Love to have a go at making one...I looked at a few courses years ago but they were expensive ! Or I'm just tight 😁

I doubt supply chain for steel > UK based steel tube specialists > frame builders is as troubled as specific bike components.
Maybe similar for aluminium.
Are there custom frames made using carbon?

Problem is, how many fewer customers are putting off their orders till they can get parts.

I remember talking to my LBS who happen to be the UK distributor for Barco, they said getting a custom frame was much quicker than trying to get a whole bike. Getting the components to turn the custom frame into a whole bike might prove a little more challenging.

For anyone who isn’t familiar, Barco make stunning steel frames of exceptional quality. Having spent time looking at the bikes/frames all I can say is I want one.

Same I have been looking at Ti, the frame isn’t the issue it’s the components.

With my Ti bike, the custom frame was the reason for the massive delay. The bike finally arrived 1 week short of a year after I ordered it - the original estimate was 3 months. Laverack had stockpiled loads of components, so that wasn’t an issue.

From the last e-mail I got from Sam at Stayer they have Columbus tubing for the frames but are waiting on some parts like Enve forks, some Hope bits etc.

They are very, very busy though by the sound of things.

Penny Farthings are in short supply.

"As you will have noticed we have a shortage of Penny Farthings on our website. This is primarily due to production issues with our rim."

"All this together means that general lead times have moved from 30 days from “order to production” to over 400 days. It has also meant that items that are labour intensive and relatively low profit like our Penny Farthing rims are excluded from production until the current situation is cleared. The predicted date for our next production run wont be until April, 2024."
