In their camping 'special, coming up, Aldi are offering a coffee maker which appears to work simply by pouring boiling water onto your ground coffee of choice, wait and serve.
I think it's around £6, but has a five year warranty - ! ^_^
Any takers - ?

I’ve a V60 around £5 now uses exactly the same process makes lovely coffee but never with boiling water!

I weighed my 3 scoops today and it was 19 grammes. When I checked out other aeropress recipes it seems like 10 grammes per cup is normal, so I suppose it's like having a double shot which is what I order when I ask for a latte.

How many grams is a typical tea spoon? I use two in my hob top maker.

How big is a typical teaspoon? How high heaped? 😉
I'm just saying that it is not a precise measure. As long as you are happy nothing else matters.

Indeed. There are a lot of variables. I just weighed a level scoop (Aeropress size) of finely ground coffee at 17g. My teaspoons are quite little, and a slightly higher than level teaspoon came in at only 3g.

Mugful of milk, bung it in the microwave to heat it up then stir in a spoonful of instant coffee.

Quick way to get a hot coffee coloured milk drink. 😂

That looks similar to things I looked at when I was looking for a portable espresso maker a few years ago.

The big river website had plenty of them which worked by pumping it up like a bike pump to build the pressure, then pressing the button to brew.

I ended up with a rechargeable thing not much bigger than that which takes pods.

Morning wake-up coffee*, start-of-work coffee and mid-morning coffee is americano with a dash of cold milk. Yes, I like it like that, deal with it. Yes I can still taste the coffee. Shock horror I'm also partial to a double shot latte with lunch too and occasional flat white. I do like an espresso from time to time.

* Get out of bed, make the coffee, take it back to bed, drink it before even considering getting up!

At home I have a DeLonghi bean to cup machine. I'm still trying different beans and still to find "the one". Tried few different branded 1kg bags off amazon and a variety of single origin ones from local roasters. Currently I think the favourite has been Lavazza Espresso Cremoso but none have really floated my boat. I've been messing with the grind settings a bit but really too much of that starts to stray into the hobbyist mindset with those home barista machines. But I'm searching for the sweet spot of best coffee for least effort. I just want to hit a button and have it give me a coffee the way I like it. I have an aeropress and I like it. It usually goes with us on holiday, but it's just a little too much faff for day to day. I'm tempted to keep one in the office locker though, as the work drip machine is so-so and reliant on other folks filling it with exactly the right quantity of grounds.

Agree Costa is the best. Starbucks is the work of the Devil, it just tastes burnt.

I used to think Starbucks was the better of the 2

but that was based on one cup I had had when I got somewhere for an interview and had some time to spare

really nice cup of black coffee

and then not again for many years - tried again and it was horrible
drinkable but only just

even Costa is better

I reckon it is down to how they clean stuff - and how often

I've owned a Magnifica and a Prima Donna and really liked the simplicity of just pressing a button and getting a consistently good coffee. However I like my coffee hot and when the Prime Donna needed repairing I just sold it for spares or repairs and bought a mokka pot and a milk frother which was more faff but gave me a hotter brew. I eventually moved to an Aeropress which is slightly less faff and makes lovely coffee. I grind my own beans (Amazon own brand) and shock horror I use boiling water!!!!!! I've tried making it with cooler water but tbh I can't taste any difference and I hate my drink going cold within about 2 minutes. Having watched a ton of so called experts on YouTube I've decided that there's a lot of BS being spouted about water temperature and grind size etc. Good luck to anyone who can pick up the tiny nuances and has the inclination to fiddle about with thermostatic swan necked kettles and so on but I I can't be @rsed and my pallate isn't sophisticated enough. For the same reason I tend not to drop more than 20 quid on a bottle of wine.

@Shortfall Mine is a Magnifica S. I've put the temp adjustment up to max and it's about hot enough for me.

Agree.

😲 I wince if it's in double figures! That's a special occasion bottle and no mistake!
