I've tried a fair few machines and methods and have settled on grinding my own beans medium/coarse, 3 scoops into an aeropess and finishing with some hot aerated milk to make a strong latte. Have experimented with amongst others Lavazza Rossa and Cafe Borbone (my favourite to date) but have settled on Amazon House Blend medium roast as a good balance between flavour and cost. I buy 1kg bags which works out pretty cheap. Not as good as an espresso in a good independent cafe but better than Costa et al and about 50p a cup versus a fiver or whatever they charge.
I thought 1 1/2 scoops of ground beans in an Aeropress was pretty strong but 3 sounds lethal! I've been ordering quite large quantities of beans (5 or 6 kilos) from DiscountCoffee and have been enjoying Larozza Moka beans, which I prefer finely ground, and served black with no sugar.

Out and about, though, I actually quite like Costa Coffee. I think that's my preference for mocha style coffee. I don't understand Starbucks at all. Caffè Nero is ok but smells far better than it tastes.

Agree Costa is the best. Starbucks is the work of the Devil, it just tastes burnt.

I read that they brew it that way as a lot of misguided people add milk to their coffee and the " burnt " brew manages to cut through the milky muck and at least give some semblance of flavour. 😉
Bean to cup machine was gifted to us by one of our sons a few years ago. We've tried many different beans and settled on Melitta Oro as our staple. We usually by it when on offer, 5kg at a time. Recently tried a bag of 100% Arabica from Aldi, it was very good indeed.

Espresso… a full mug, black.

I used to work for an Italian company and when the guys from head office saw the size of my mug they proclaimed that I was gonna die.

friggin amateurs.

I’m amazed you haven’t died 😅
Assuming a 300ml mug and an espresso being 1:2 that’s 150 grams of coffee!
Even a 1:3 espresso is 100 grams.

At home I drink my coffee, black, with varying methods but always at 1:15 If I buy a coffee when out I buy espresso and then ask for a splash of water in it ( long black) as I find Americano is usually too weak.

Moka pot at home using Lavazza Red. Espresso outside, but only if I know they do extremely good coffee.
Slightest of doubts and it is a flat white but with 1/2 the normal amount of milk. Think of it as a double shot Cortado.

I have it in a large cup with warm milk so it's just like a double shot latte. It works for me ymmv
