i'm thinking of starting to commute after christmas, it will be 12 mile each way that i think will take about 50 mins. with me having to be at work by 5.45am, it was the reason i posted a question about marathon + in the accessories forum, any little bit of time saved will be loved!
just wondering how far you commute and do any of you start work early?

I do 11.5 miles each way, every day. 45 mins in, 35 mins home. It'll probably take a few mins longer now, as from today I've retired the road bike for Winter and dug out my trusty hybrid.......Christ, she's a heavy beast!

Oh, and M+'s are truly awesome. I'm rapidy approaching my 10,000th puncture free mile.

A 9 mile round trip five days a week. My colleagues think that's insane, so God knows what they'd make of some of you lot.

3 and a half miles each way to college, although at the moment i'm not commuting due to nearly being hit by a bus and my fiance would rather I didn't because she worries about me enough as it is without my tales of nearly being killed. Once it's day light there and back though, I'll be back on the saddle, hopefully by about the end of Feb.

Mine is only 11 miles as a round trip.
Probably takes me longer to get dressed up for it!!!!
Agree with you Hip - they think I am also crazy! If only they knew.
I do run in once a week to keep me really trim though!

Just shy of a 20 mile round trip, 4 days a week (though this year I've been missing a few days, so need to get back into my groove in January).

40 mile round trip, only 3 days a week mind, I'm still not up to Ianrauk's standards! (although recently I have been doing some 4 and 5 day weeks)

I leave at either 7.15 (if riding with a buddy) or 7.30 and allow 1 hour and 10 mins for the ride (usually do it in 1 and 5), 15 mins for a shower and cool down and 5 mins for a latte.

However, the return run takes anything up to 15 minutes longer...its dark, lonely, always a headwind and the last 6 miles are all just a little bit uphill, so no momentum for miles.

Blimey, people shout at you and try to run you over the moment you go on the road??? I get the odd idiot shouting at me but not often, I don't think anyone has TRIED to run me over, a few have almost accidently run me over but to my knowledge no one has actually tried to!
Well maybe its what im wearing. Sadly my area is not so friendly. Still though that does not stop me. I remember someone telling me once that a man cycles from Slough to get to central London. Im thinking if that is really true.. lol

I'm hoping to start my 32 mile round trip again in the new year, planning on doing it 3 times a week.

12.5 miles each way, just 3 days per week for now, as I've only recently started. Taking about 1hr 10 mins there and 55 mins back at the moment (hills and wind). Still using my 23mm Scwalbe Blizzards as that's all I have.

....... I was a lot fitter maybe but as it is I'll stick to the short commute and leisure rides.

Only picked this post because it suits my remark. For those who feel they are not fit enough you will be amazed at the improvement in fitness within a couple if weeks. It just keeps getting better after that.

I'm a leisure cyclist quite capable of 75-80 miles with my club, even up to 100 as the end of summer approaches. I've been commuting for four months now and have found the following:

Weight loss is very good while appetite increases!!

Average speed up by 3mph and can easily cruise at 19/20 mph or more some days over long sections of the commute.

I have a compact double and didn't use the big ring much. Now I ride on the big ring all the time meaning I have a nice range if lower gears available for the hills.

Regular riding makes a huge difference.

Cograts on the increased performance and the tips but your approach and your talk of big rings isnt for me  I just remapped my route and its actually 18 miles (I've no idea where I got 12 from) and entirely uphill and into the prevailing wind, the flipside I realise is going home a great downhill with a following wind but its that start to the day. Its just not something I want to do then work all day as well.

I'll stick by doing it as a leisure ride next year, and reserve the right to come back and say 'You know what, you were right!' though ^_^

Average 7 miles each way. Depending on how I feel, I can shorten or lengthen the route. Leave around 6.15 to make sure I've got time to get tidied up ready for a 7 a.m start.

Cycle in all weathers apart from snow and ice.
