You want to see things that aren't there go for it.

I grew up in the 80s where you didn't go out on a Saturday cause the football hooligans were about. Where the sight of a skinhead with doc martens sent shivers down my fathers spine and he would tell us to cross the road to walk on the other side.

Where 'pxxx bashing' was a favourite pastime for certain sections of society.

You think you know bigotry cause you got black friends? Get real man.

I'm out.

Stay in, please.

That wasn't what I meant by saying "Some of my.." - I thought you might understand that, but apparently not. All the things you said above just underline the point that you really ought to know better. Anyway, off topic n all that.

Actually, it's 2016 hence the reference to Polishmen. Before this develops a racial undertone, let me be clear that I have south Asian heritage and the view held is predominant amongst this community.

The reference to the Englishman and the Polishman is intended as a compliment. The English are seen as professional and do the job well, the Poles are hardworking and punctual although they lack the intricate skills and the Asians well...they're cheap for a reason.

This...I might add...relates to trades people.
As a tradesman i think you have it bang on . I've spent 30 years looking at what tradesmen before me did , some of it hundreds of years old . It takes time to do and if you want it done faster find someone else .

If you think @moodymans comments were bigoted you really do need to get out a bit and see a bit more than your little corner of England

Good job I don't live there then. Either way, I don't understand how seeing more of the UK would make his comments any less bigoted than they already are.

You mean the real world where bigotry thrives because nobody checks it?

We were let down by 5 local roofers not turning up, I was advised to contact a Non local not born in this country tradesman, he turned up on time and did the job well.

Does that make me a bigot.

No, makes you fortunate that you found somebody to do the job well. Your example is hardly scientific in nature.

It wasn't bigoted, more like embarrassingly old fashioned. A bit like when you hear your old Nan talking about foreigners and "them darkies", and when the Two Ronnies blacked up. There's no ill intent there, but it's an unenlightened approach from another era. An approach that people from other "corners" of the UK (i.e. the majority of it) have left behind now. We don't stereotype like that anymore based solely on race.
And I get out plenty ta.

MOD NOTE:
Okay, we've done the "who should/ shouldn't do the work" bit. Now please keep to the OP and just answer the simple question of 'how long should/ would it take ?'

Thank you.

As a modification to the "Cheap, light, strong- choose 2" maxim I would say you can have your local shop do it well, do it cheaply or do it quickly. Choose 2. It isn't a case of how quickly they can do it, but how well do you want it done?
