Recall replacements - how long after the fact?

I have a Cannondale CAADX from 2016 and I have just become aware of the recall on the forks that occurred a few years ago (2020 I believe).
I haven't ridden the bike much in the past few years since the recall and when I did it was on road, but have recently been riding it on bumpier off road terrain. Would it therefore be safe to continue riding the bike on the assumption of it hasn't failed by now it's OK, or should the forks still be replaced as per the original recall notice? If they should be replaced, is this something that my local dealer should still be able to help with do you think? I just called my local dealer and they didn't seem that keen on helping but maybe that's because it's the end of the day.

I also don't know how one is supposed to become aware of these recalls. I only discovered it because I was watching a CADE Media YT video when they were talking about previous bikes they owned and one of them had the same bike and mentioned the recall. So until this afternoon I was completely unaware of any issue at all, but now I'm a little nervous.

I have posted about it on this forum several times over the years!

I discovered it when COVID broke out so that wasn't a good time to get it sorted out. Since then I have been recommended a couple of bike shops but they either stopped being Cannondale dealers or are too far away. A new bike shop near here opened and the owner said that he would sort it out for me but I have not got round to contacting him again. Thanks for the reminder - I will cycle up there tomorrow and see if/when he can do it.

Have you continued to ride it in the meantime?

For what it's worth, Garmin has the bike clocked at a little over 7800km. As I say that's 99.9% on road riding.

No - the thought of the forks snapping off on a descent at 80+ km/hr rather put me off!!!

The last time that I rode the bike was in 2019 or 2020. It did need some other work doing on its brakes and gears but I have finished those jobs so now I just need to get the fork replacement sorted out. The bike is going to be my winter/bad weather bike so it needs doing ASAP before this glorious summer finally ends. It has really good mudguards unlike all of my other bikes.

I managed to contact Cannondale and they replied saying to contact Saddleback, the UK distributor, which I did and they promptly replied that they still have the replacement forks in stock and it should be quick to sort out. I just need to contact my local shop, which I did, forwarding the email chain on and I'm now awaiting a response from Tredz.
Fingers crossed of goes as smoothly as Saddleback suggest it should.

An update: dropped the bike at the shop this evening. Had to show proof of purchase, which I'm not convinced is right on a recall. Managed to dig up an old cycle2work voucher, which seemed good enough anyway. I've left it with them and I'll await them doing the work and letting me know when it's ready.

I hope that I don't have to show proof when I get mine done - I bought it used on ebay 10 years ago and don't have any documentation!

Yeah it seems nonsense. I wonder if they are mixing up a warranty claim with a recall as I can understand that difference. He mentioned there's usually a 5 year limit on these things so maybe that's why they're doing it differently, I don't know.

The alternative is to try a different shop or explain that you aren't keen on being killed riding your bike. I was open to suggesting I can do the work myself, I just need the replacement forks, but it didn't come to that.

Or email the importer direct, and if they confirm to you that age does not plade a limit on product liability you can wave the email at the bike shop.

An update.

I dropped it off at the local shop last Wednesday and I picked it up today. The staff member said how helpful Cannondale had been in the matter. It's now a full carbon fork. I haven't had chance to ride it yet as I had to wait in for the dishwasher delivery people.

It does look good though. All black with a dark grey canondale logo at the shoulders. It looks slightly different the way the QR seats and the routing of the brake cable, but it's tidy and just different, not really worse.

Not sure if I'll notice a difference riding it, hopefully I'll get the chance to find out tomorrow.

That's good news!

I have been into my LBS and the owner said that he would contact Saddleback to see about getting a replacement fork. I haven't got back in touch with him yet to see what the response was but he did mention proof of purchase!

The only thing I could possibly do is to see if I could find the original owner on ebay and ask if he still has proof that he could forward to me!

PS I just went on ebay - they only have records of my purchases going back to Jan 1st, 2017, but I bought the bike in June 2015!! I can't think of how to track down the vendor. Maybe ebay would look back further in their records if I asked them nicely?! Failing that, maybe pleading with Saddleback to relax the proof of purchase requirement would work? I could show them the original posts on CycleChat about buying the bike on ebay. I could promise to thank them profusely on the forum for being so helpful...

Surely this means there will be a record of your purchase. In my calendar January 1st 2015 is earlier than June 2015.
