How many individual bits in a bike?

Do you have a larger version of that picture, @ianrauk? I'm wondering why there are 3 saddle-shaped bits, plus it looks like the front chain rings are still attached to the spider. Hard to tell at that picture resolution, though.

Yeah, I was thinking along those lines too. Each shifter has to be good for 50-100 widgets surely?

Lots of saddles are stapled. There must be 20 or 30 staples in each one. Each bearing on the bike has to have at least 25 parts. The tyre is composed of 3 or 4 layers and usually some steel bands. An inner tube has valves which comprise at least half a dozen pieces. All in all, I'm sceptical of the 900 figure. I think that is an under-estimate.
