I was at Glentress the other weekend at at least 50% of the riders there were female, which, again is a massive increase from 5 - 10 years ago when there was hardly anyone. I think it's fantastic myself.

I'm going there with a girl tomorrow so 50% of us will be female!

Am a cyclist of the lady persuasion and cycled regularly in London (commuting, pootling into town, laps of Richmond Park and regular escapes into Surrey etc) until I moved away 4 years ago. There weren't very many female cyclists that I noticed, but it was before the congestion charge. Last time I visited there were loads more cyclists, both male and female.

Recently rode a sportive and about 8% of participants were female, was a little surprised that there weren't more.

The current trend for t-shirts/dresses etc over leggings seems to be working well for a lot of cyclists I've seen round these parts. I agree with Kirstie in that 5/6 years ago my LBS didn't carry much lady-specific kit because they said there wasn't much demand, and couldn't find much on line either. Minx were a godsend when they started trading.

I'm of the feminine persuation. There is only one other female that cycles to work and we occassionally go on the odd after work ride, but the CTC group I'm with has a fair few ladies (all 50-60+ though). I rarely see another female cyclist out, having said that I don't see many cyclists out in general (more so on a Sunday if anything). I'm sure there are though as there's usually a fair few bikes in the cycle shed at work and if I drive in I do see the odd one or two commuter looking types.

I'm female and in London - cycle very regularly-every day to work, for leisure and race - love it and grumble when I have to sit on a bus and watch cyclists whizz pass- though love bike watching!

One thing I hate - female cycle clothing - NO I DON'T WANT PASTEL COLOURS OR PINK!!

The Top shop concession was awful imho.

I'm a girl and a cyclist too!! I've noticed the numbers going up here in Leeds, but slowly. And totally agree that pastel colours aren't what we want!!

Where I work, there's quite a few girls cycling to work - the fact that we have showers probably helps.
I agree: the dress/long-line T-shirt over leggings is the best combination: comfy enough to cycle in, but stylish enough for after-work drinks. In some social situations Lycra just won't do

I totally agree. I have one clothing combo that works for both cycling and socialising and I've worn it to death (sleeve ripped) sigh.
