Your opinion and your entitled to it, but I have said nothing negative to anyone since joining this forum. Only reacted to someone having a go at me for owning a fast car! I guess some of you are anti car or something.
I enjoy cars and bikes and my posts are just as valid as yours or Reiver's

Not so much anti-car as anti-aggressive-driver. There are plenty of those and owning an excessively powerful vehicle brings out the worst in them. In a country where the max. speed is 70 mph it makes no sense to own excessively fast cars. Good handling and reasonable acceleration is far more important than top speed for safety.

In a few days I shall drive c. 1200km and have no doubt I shall see plenty of dickheads in my rear mirror tailgating me because I am not exceeding speed limits. It's quite possible I shall see some of them rolled over beside the auto route as I did a couple of trips ago not long minutes after they overtook me going about 30 or 40 mph faster than the limit.

Always stick to 30MPH limits - indeed, often go slower, given the tight residential streets round here, all parked cars and munchkins. Apart from that, on long journeys I tend to go the same speed as the car in front and at a safe distance, which works for me. I do occasionally do more than 70 on the motorway, but not by much or for long. Not least since I discovered just how much more petrol it uses.

I'm a very aware and careful driver, but you chose to pigeon hole me because i said i have a powerful car give it the beans on an open motorway????
Most people drive st 80mph on the motoways - even the police think it's a good idea to up the speed limit and then enforce it??

Anyone doing more than 10% more than the speed limit is a complete fool - plenty of track days available for those that want to fully exploit their cars performance.

Most aggressive drivers??? Who are they??? I have seen idiots from 17 yo in a 1,1 Corsas to oap's in bentleys driving like a plank!

As for not being negative - who wouldn't be defensive as a newbie on a forum where the old boy tree huggers close in???

I join any forum to be a part of that community and not to be the butt of their frustrations, stereotypical views and bullying - enough said on this subject. I will say no more as my passion is cars and bikes :-)

and when the limit is raised to 80 i will stilll tootle along at 65 as thats what the best fuel economy/not pissing off lorry drivers speed is .

until that point it is fairly simple logical process - faster than the law says means you are breaking it.
what will also happen is that people will drive at 85/90 5-10 above the legal limit as they do now. and still drive at them speeds when the conditions suggest a lower speed. because a surprisingly large number of drivers think they are better than average, which isn't mathematically possible.

i could drive on the motorway at well over 125 in the vehicle i have, but i don't for the reasons listed above. I have been on airstrips and opened the beast up. for a large 4x4 it can certainly accelerate to its top speed rather sharpish. and thats without being tweaked in the ECU.

old boy tree huggers. no just a little wiser and more aged than some youngsters

I see someone has retracted their post - I looked up his footnote , something along the lines of FTFY which when googled is " f this f you"

A lovely welcome :-)

Well I have done the same, hopefully that will put an end to this bickering - not the reason I joined

So 530kam can confess to speeding and be hated but when Smeggers confesses to having accumulated 20 points on his license over the years he's loved:wacko:

Most of the time when I'm on motorways they are empty.
Stay around 60-65 and you'll make significant fuel savings.
My car is geared to do a true 70mph (indicated 75) at 2000rpm. 60 to 65 is in fact a spot where she is between 5th and 6th so doesn't return the best mpg.

You have made assumptions that are not always correct.
Who said anything about hating anyone?

Smeggers has a long poky-stick, which he likes to use. He also knows the issues around dangerous driving and doesn't pretend otherwise.
Maybe hate was a tad OTT but anyway thanks for clearing that up.I shall remember to take Smeggers posts less seriously in the future.

I've never seen a thread with so much disappearing ink!

I think it's the case that 99.9% of drivers have exceeded the speed limit either by an omission of care or deliberate seeking of a thrill at some point.
I'm no saint either. 200bhp under the right foot and the right conditions was a lovely temptation. But I never had the inclination to burn through 30's etc, so my license is clean.
I dropped out of that rat race when that car's crankshaft decided to try and drop from the engine. I went posh and got a Beemer. Mid-life crisis car to long-distance cruiser in one easy step. And it's a revelation!
Watching the rest of the world blast by in it's angry pursuit makes me laugh out loud sometimes.
Either I'm getting old or the aggression of drivers has increased vastly over the past couple of years.
My better half is an ambulance driver too (who wipes the floor with me as an observant driver - and I thought I was good!), so I'm obeying limits and enjoying it.
