One of the claimed benefits of paying with cards is that it's supposed to be easier. But why is it so damned slow? Every time I'm queueing to pay for something and the people in front of me are paying with cards, it always takes longer than to pay with cash.
Contactless is faster. I suspect most card payments rely on internet connections, which are generally shoot outside cities and large towns in the UK, but it's only checking a random sample of contactless ones and uploading the rest of them in batches later. I could be wrong: I work with payment systems but online so no contactless.

I don't tend to carry much cash as I normally use contactless. The only exception to this is if I'm going somewhere they don't accept cards like the local market or the boot fair. A couple of times a month I carry a black duffel bag with £50,000 in it down to the local docks where I meet my mate Ramon. Ramon gives me a briefcase and I normally hold onto it for a couple of days before Pablo comes and picks it up.

Same as everyone now. Very little cash, but if going out with friends/family etc. I take cash as it's less of a pain to split the bill, although that gets tricky when some insist on cards.

Are notes and coins still acceptable currency?

I have found a photo of the last people to barter with bits of coloured paper and shiny metal:

A tenner and a card, will only carry more cash if I'm going to small shops that I know don't take cards.

And a proper orderly wallet, notes in the correct order is a very important thing.

Nooo, I don't have a wallet and if MrsF is not about & I have to carry cash, I often lose it. Last Thursday I took my mother out for a tipple, I had 2 x £20 notes, 1 rum & 1 wine cost me £27+ as I managed to lose a note between the bar & our seats. But, I found fiver yesterday in some pants I wore out last Saturday (when I got pissed) and the pleasure that fiver gave me far outweighed the loss of the £20. ^_^
