How much did you spend on your gear?

Excluding your bike, how much have you spent either in one or as you progressed buying different things for your bike.

I decided after being paid to go and replace my ripped hi-vis jacket to go and buy some bits n peices for my cycling in the cold and night.

I bought a night vision jacket waterproof jacket,
a bag water proof hi-vis cover,
thermal head cap (designed for runners) to put on under my helmet,
more thermal socks,
(with out planning) Action Camera,
A smartphone holder armband thing (was about 2 quid so i thought ill give this gimmick a go)
Tuns of batteries as I am low.

Spent: 185 estimating.

All in one shopping day. Then I went silly and bought coffee during the week so when the car tax disc came through I was left with 16 quid for petrol money... stupid tax disc...ignoring the fact I went out to eat with some friends and to the pub a couple of times.

I don't even want to add it up... but I seem to have earned platinum discount at a well-known online retailer

Spent £150 today on new pedals and shoes. Well, that's what bonuses are for I suppose.

I have no fancy gear at all but over the past five years I have shuddered at the prospect of adding up the total cost of all the stuff I have bought. Quite a lot of it has been replacement items for worn out clothes and components. It isn't a cost-free activity or mode of transport.





Worth every penny though.

I daren't add it up. I get semi-obsessive in each new venture I take up and spend more than I probably should.

I have no idea but I seem to be more selective in what I buy now. I look for bargains more.

Jacket,helmet, padded tights, padded shorts, shoes, lights, underseat bag and a bile multitool, somewhere around £300, I got a £100 discount off my bike though to start with though!!!

As I've got the bug though I've spent on my commuter bike with road tyres, new cables all round, rack and bag, new pedals and new BB which was around another £100, the bulk (£60) being a good rack and tail bag that will eventually migrate onto my good bike though

I've also spent around £100 on a work stand ( a godsend!!) and a few bike specific tools, crank puller, bb tool, chain splitter etc

New wheels, lights, locks, waterproofs, shoes, cycling socks, shorts, leg warmers, leggings and so on and so forth.

Nope, daren't. I have quite enough worries trying to pay the bills without depressing myself further

God knows but i used to spend £1000 a year on cigarettes so the same amount on bike stuff means its free in real terms

I'n my mind I think I don't spend too much, but I'd hate to add it up. I didn't buy too many bits or clothes over the last year, but this year I'm going to need some new bib shorts and a jersey or two, oh and I should buy a club skin suit. I kind of justify it (in my mind) by thinking it's an investment in my health.
I'm not quite sure my wife would agree and if I spent too much, my health might decrease rather rapidly

I'm scared to add it up but I reckon it must be several thousand quid over the last 10 years or so and that's not including the 7 bikes I've bought over that period as well. I suppose I'm lucky that I have a bit of disposable income that lets me indulge my love of bikes and cycling

I have past the first flush of spending (you go mad and need everything at the beginning), now I'm fairly restrained, I think I've bought some aldi gloves, new cable, and a few other bits so far this year. But if I need to spend it I will. Bus fare would cost me £6 each day so it soon adds up, and I've not done the second car calculations .... But that would definitely be more. And most importantly what price is health and well being!

Cycling is a benefit to me.

Edit: this thread is bad ... It's now made me realise that I haven't spent much so I'm going to replace my leaking waterproof trousers. Oh dear!

I've tried to keep myself from getting too carried away. The Triban 3 was a great start. But a few hundred has gone on clothes and gear too.
My health is better and I think that is critically important in your 40s and I'm saving money on petrol. Some of they guys at work spend ridiculous amounts on gym membership or golf.
