Mine cost me £300. I've got a 2010 Carrera Virtuoso that Halfords were selling cheap because they were getting the 2011 stuff in, so I saved nearly £80 in the sale. I don't have panniers or anything like that, just a bag on my back as I only carry light stuff, and I've got £16 worth of lights on (They're not as crap as they sound, they were in a sale for 50% off on wiggle!).

I paid £900 on my Thorn Club Tour some 8 or 9 years ago. I was commuting to a secure site with security patrols and the like. If I was parking in a public place I'd have bought a cheaper bike.

I also have the touché but with a few extras. Cost around £800

I have the same frame on my fixed (although different paint colour and stickers) and it ended up about £1,100 with pedals.

It's had a few upgrades/additions since (ahem including extra nice bars after a brush with a taxi  )

Break it, upgrade it !

£400 for C2W on the intial cost and have probably dropped another £2/300 on upgrades, kit, repairs etc in the 18 months I've had it. I couldnt travel to work for £40 a month (average cost so far) any other way.

£360 (I think) for a Trek 7.1fx with a few custom bits and bobs. It's done 6500 miles in 2 years with very little work needed on it - I've just changed the BB and I'll be fitting a new cassette in the next couple of weeks, but that's about it.

My 2010 Spesh Allez 16 bought in March was a bargain at £399. I've got my eye on the Allez Elite at £800 now though! The plan was to buy a new bike after 1 year/5,000 miles but I don't know if I'll make it that long.

As I point out the the Missus, I'm saving over £2,000 a year commuting, so I'm entitled.....nay obliged to spend some of that saving!

How long does it take to fold the trike and get it into the locker and the same to remove and unfold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

It may be quicker to build/dismantle the locker around the trike.

Picky!

Besides the locker requires tools that aren't on the Alien.

To be quite honest it takes no longer than the three padlocks, u locks and cable locks that adorn the CAtrike when it is being left here.

I spent £350 on my Ridgeback Solo last year. Since then, I've put an S3X on the back, and a dynohub on the front. Rack & bottle cage were (quite deliberately) old & scratty. Stickers have cost pence. I've replaced the bar tape and been through two sets of tyres (about to change to my second set of Durano Plus), and I'm on (I think) my third chain.

In 1996, I spent £600 on my Orbit Silver Medal. Since then, it's had a respray, three sets of wheels, two saddles, two rear derailleurs and countless chains, cables, brake blocks etc since.

This year, I've done 5128km commuting, of which roughly half has been on each bike.

Bought an Apollo Highway from Halfords last September to dip my toe cheaply (£180) into daily commuting... loved Commuting by bike (but not the Apollo which quickly started to fall apart from the daily 14 mile assault) - got £100 for it traded in for a Felt QX95 Hybrid which was a total bargain at £550 from my LBS - decided after 4 further months of stress free commuting I needed a bike that was less 'Mountain' stylee & more 'Road' so bought a nearly mint Boardman Hybrid Comp on eBay for £325 (bargain) - sold the QX95 for the same... (I was happy) much prefer the 28c tyres than 35c's... not to mention the disc brakes!

Also bought a mint Boardman Comp Road bike for £500 on eBay too for sunny days, a bit of training and the weekend's occasional 30-40 miler...

I have just got rid of the car too... MAJOR result I reckon!

I was riding on my geared road bike £700 without odds, but now have changed the majority of my commutes to a £350 fixed gear and a bit extra to convert to bullhorns and mudguards.

Am I the only one with a mental image of "ronny" biggs682, sitting at his computer making a note of the locations and costs of all our steeds.

Mine cost £1.50 has a spike on the saddle, one decent wheel, is rusty, squeaks and is totally not worth stealing.

*edit* and having just voted, I know have a handy list of the 10 of you with bikes costing over a grand
