£18K for my ex corparation house in a modest estate.
That was circa 1995. Still live there now.
Money in the bank month after month. Ive seen a good few do similar to me, but then remortgage and buy better houses...then lose them due to circumstances or overstretching.
We want safety...might not be a brilliant area but its just ok.
What its worth now is irrelevent. I cant ever realise the profit it has in it while I need somewhere to live.
1982 tiny two bed edwardian two up two down for £10500, I was earning £50 a week as a storekeeper at the time and had to raise a £500 deposit and take out a £10000 mortgage that had me paying back £114 a month. We sold it 15 years later for £35000, unfortunately we out grew the house.
1966. Originally went for new terraced house on an estate in Maidstone. These were £3750 but there were none left. Offered the cheapest semi for £3950 and remember many sleepless nights worrying about how I could afford the extra mortgage!!
A two bedroom terraced house in Arnos Grove in need of renovation for £23,600 in 1981. Sold it five years later for £52000.
Our mortgage at the time was £17000, and the rate was 16.5%.
I saw the place for sale recently, £345000.
