I bought my first house in 1998, tiny two up - two down terrace for £37000, 5% deposit.
Loved that little house. Sold it four years later as my family had tripled in size (from just me to me, husband and baby) and we were struggling to fit all our stuff in!
Sold it for double what I paid for it, which was handy for buying my current house.

Got married in 1976 and we bought a 1900s semi to do up, it was all we could afford at £7,900. The house didn't have central heating but had 2 coal fires. The walls were of wood and the house was full of woodworm. The mistake agent said that we would be able to do it up. Being young in our early twenties we believed him!
The first thing I did was to buy a saw and cut out the wooden walls, they were like aero, full of holes. The next thing was to get Rentokil in to treat the remaining wood. We were never bothered by flies for years, a bit strange as we lived next to 2 farms.
We struggled for several years before we managed to put the house right. As my wife says if we could have been given a bigger mortgage we could have bought a 2 bedroom masionnet and saved money whereas we ploughed money and effort in with little return.
I think we sold it in 1985 and bought a new house.

I noticed that it had been sold again in May 2015 for £565,000. This for a small, Victorian, 3 bed. terraced house.

I've noticed that the small two bedroom terraced like our first house we paid £10500 for are now going for £120000 - £150000

That was our problem, when we first brought the house there was just me and my Good Lady, by the time we sold it we had our two lads as well and needed somewhere with more room.

2 bed terrace in Narborough for £12,500 in 81 .........
Narborough Leicestershire (not Narborough Norfolk)?
Our first place was in Narborough (Leics), bought at the end of 1987 for £32800. It was a terrace with 2 main bedrooms + a micro-bedroom carved out of the old bathroom. Prices were rocketing at that time and the neighbours thought we'd paid too much.

Here for rides.
21.5k got you a single bedroom flat in the pretty seedy district of Kemptown in Brighton in 1985. Hip and trendy it was not.

Times have changed.

1987, I bought a top floor one bedroom flat in a conservation area. Cost me £19800. Didn't have central heating :cold: and came complete with a chocolate brown bathroom suite.
It had amazing views out to sea and over the city.
