Just read about when Lance replaced his left hand STI lever with a downtube shifter to lose weight - how much weight would this actually save?

According to Weight Weenies a DA STI is around 180-210g depending on vintage.

A DA DT lever is about 40g. Since you'd still need some kind of brake lever I can't see the saving being all that great.

Campag record carbon aero levers weigh 210 g according to Parkers. I assume thats for a pair- 'cos they don't weigh more than a single Dura Ace STI- that's 105g.

For comparison some basic Shimano R400 alloy aero levers weigh 260g a pair, so 130g.

There'll be a bit less cable and outer too.

Eeeeh, not sure I've ever had an accidental shift on STIs. OTOH, it's an absolute b*gg*r when you're honking uphill and your knee hits the downtube shifter, plonking you into a harder gear!;)

Still, it's all rather enjoyable!
