How much does a cycle mechanic earn?

I'd imagine somewhere between minimum wage and not a great deal! Most are going to be doing it for the love of bikes & cycling and the other perks (trade prices etc), not a life of luxury.

Bike mechanics get next to nob all. Most punters baulk at the price of, say, a new drivetrain when it comes to parts alone never mind the price of fitting it. And it's a dirty, shitty job as well.

I would guess that the profit in a bike shop comes from new bikes - that the mechanic has built and the sale of components - that the mechanic has fitted and NOT from fixing a puncture which would come under 'service' as a fixed cost. Therefore the mechanics wages would not be directly related to the hourly rate charged

Probably not far off Rob my brother used to manage our LBS, money was rubbish but he's a bike nut so didn't mind so much until he got a house, wife,kids etc then had to move on..

My mate used to get about 20p/hour over minimum wage. The only thing that made it tolerable was the staff discount on parts/bikes plus the odd freebie.

I'm currently browsing for a new income.
Have done a few things in the lat 10 years, that I grew tired of:
Plumber/ pipe fitter,
Military,
Driving,
Tree surgeon,
Did a year on a science degree an uni...left it for military.

Been browsing for hours and feel really grim! I'd be fine on 20k plus for now. But all such jobs want seemingly obscure experience and what appear to me to be bs qualifications. Public services seems pot luck and is a long process to get in. Companies like British Gas and Virgin media appear not to be recruiting. Best easy come wage appears to be call centre work, at about 18000pa.

Maybe it's where I live!?

Yep margins are mega tight, rents are high and competition is plentiful.

The 22k for Evans was a senior mechanic. They pay their shop staff £15k

Mobile mechanics are where it's at. My clubmate's been flat out since he became Cytech qualified, I've been waiting 3+ weeks for him to collect a frame and components for a build.

Admittedly I told him it wasn't a rush job but he's meticulous with a rapid turn-around and not hard to pay.
