I'm not sure what point they were trying to make with the "presenter's older car with a worn tyre vs. new car with good tyres" braking test. The tests were done in the dry, so IMO the worn tyre wouldn't have made any difference - some cars stop faster than others? They repeated the test braking from 80mph - if they wanted to show what difference in speed makes to braking distance, why not just use one car?
Good point about the tyres, after all in the dry a slick tyre gives more adhesion than a treaded tyre. The whole programme is geared to the "new is better" ethos and the "let big brother take away all that worry about how to drive safely" problem. I'm sorry to say it again but people need to be tought to take resposibility for their own actions, be that in driving, riding or anything else. The logical conclusion is "trains" of vehicles on fixed tracks where you programme in a destination and just sit and wait 'till you get there. All cycles will of course be banned from these "roads" and shunted onto planned cycleways [if allowed at all], for our own safety of course and all journeys will be monitored. Extreme ? Possibly, but it may not be too far out.
I'm off to hide in the bunker.
