I've seen Tynan posting comments as well and thought it was worth a chat about this subject. So far I've had 6 books via this method and, on arrival, they hit the top of the book pile. I've also taken to doing a first come first served thread, rather than a raffle to move it on. This makes it all quicker, for my 6 books I reckon they're all well under two weeks from me receiving to me posting out to someone else.

If you're not prepared to prioritise the book to the top of your pile, or you want to keep it for a long time, shouldn't you buy your own?

Agreed, i've i had one or two myself and passed them on as soon as, i think if you put your name in the the hat, you should be prepared to pass on within a couple of weeks at least.

'Books' used to be a Cafe topic - no raffle, 1st post.

Then it became a 'raffle'.

Gentleman's agreements fell by the wayside.

I posted a lovely book on with the proviso that it should be re-advertised but sadly it has never reappeared. I won't name and shame but I'm with you on this one Al.

Funnily enough- I've just put a book on the raffle - I had no idea of the etiquette (was it first come/first served, or a raffle) so I went for a raffle.

I'd love to know the etiquette - meanwhile mosey on over to the free book area for your chance to get Brad Wiggins' autobiog (it is a good read)

<The book of Genesis>
In the beginning a few forummers had books which they wished to pass on. To keep it simple they posted in Cafe and the first person to reply got the book on the understanding they'd pass it on.
<The book of Genesis>

then someone had an idea..

...and it all went to rat shoot with raffles and nobody cared or had any loyalty.

well you've got plenty of time to practice your reading speeds then, once they're good enough then join in sharing the books

more seriously, taking a bit more time wouldn't be an issue. It's having no intention of reading it promptly, or just adding it to a 'to read' pile that's taking advantage.

Aha, so my 'non-raffles' have unwittingly picked up on the original idea, interesting.

Yes that's fine - I agree. I've only ever had one book, read it and then "life stuff" happened and I wasn't around for 18 months to be able to pass it on. Chap next in the queue got it eventually tho'. But normally I would agree that 18 months is a wee bit tardy. But in my defence, your honour, the "Life stuff" came out of the blue.
