A bit of both obviously. Tenants can come into a property and never pay a penny in rent. Housing benefit pay them the rent and they keep it.Well he would say that, wouldn't he. In reality the problem is that tenants' rights don't go nearly far enough.
But a standard tenancy says the landlord can give you two months notice. If the tenant holds out he can stay put for 6 months and either wreck the property or demand the landlord give him a good reference.
On the other hand is two month notice reasonable? I know a couple given 2 months notice after paying rent on a property for 15 years. Made me sick just thinking about it.
