How to fit mini aero bars?

I have just picked up some mini aero bars that are in this image..

They are supposed to be for standard sized bars but i am struggling to get them on, they are Tranz X spinacci type tri bars.

Has anyone ever fitted these? all i seem to be doing is chewing up my bar tape with the clamps

Those look like MTB bars and IIRC they are different diameter to road bars (and base bars).

In any case the clamps should be direct on the metal - not on the bar tape.

I know the rest of the bars are mtb bars , i assumed the mini aero bars were for a road bike , if not i guess i will be sticking them on ebay .

I will try on metal tommorow if i get chance.
