I do my own stunts
Hi,

Hoping for a bit of advice before I meet a councillor here to bend their ear on it.

The council is spending a lot of money on a cycle scheme along The Slade, Oxford, to link the hospitals with the segregated cycle path around the bypass.

All well and good but there is an unpleasant few hundred metres of road linking to two where, when travelling south, you have to turn right onto the cycle path.

The "recommended" route is to cycle off to the left hand side and cross three pieces of road, two of which are signal controlled but the final crossing point, here.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.7412429,-1.1964993,3a,75y,2.12h,86.6t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s8J0TGJNCmdnkr7fp_HWZHg!2e0!6s//geo2.ggpht.com/cbk?panoid=8J0TGJNCmdnkr7fp_HWZHg&output=thumbnail&cb_client=maps_sv.tactile.gps&thumb=2&w=203&h=100&yaw=8.22582&pitch=0&thumbfov=100!7i13312!8i6656

is still 50mph and you have to second guess which drivers are turning left rather than continuing straight on. The drivers tend to be focussed on merging ahead so you need to guess right.

The other option, which I use, is to pull across into the second lane and turn into the path here

which is also vaguely encouraged by the blue cycle signs. However, again, drivers tend to be focused on choosing the shortest queue, and there is nothing to make it obvious why you are in the second lane about to join a busy bypass. I have had numerous unpleasant undertakes where the driver realises you are stopping at the last minute.

I also can't imagine it's an option unless you are a confident cyclist.

I would like to propose a "better way" but rather than start from scratch I'm hoping someone knows a similar, better layout elsewhere.

Thanks for your help!
