Had more issues in the car yesterday than on my bike today, that said I was freezing when I got home.

Icy on the way in and very wet/windy on the way home.

Almost got SMIDSYd by a woman in a Golf GTi but I watch that particular junction closely anyway and she did stop (and was a little surprised just before she pulled out).

it's been OK into Leeds on main routes. On the side roads it's a little tricky.

And, how can I say this ....... a little galling to be gingerly cycling along a very icy Foundry Lane around 10pm. Not a whisper of grit anywhere.

All the time watching a gritter doing its job really well; getting to its required stretch of asphalt; turning on the gritting mechanism, and the orange flashing lights ..... and doing a damned thorough job!





Pity he was only gritting Halfords car park, though.

Could be my imagination but I think people were a lot more considerate last night. The weather was awful too but some cars waiting a VERY long time for a nice clear spot to get past when usually they will pass me.

Somebody honked their horn at me for no reason asI pulled away from some lights. That hasn't happened for at least two years. Encouraged by last night's programme, I yelled "Wvnker!" after him and made an onanistic gesture for him to see in his rear view mirror. Did I do the right thing?

I pulled over on a single-track road with passing spaces to let three or four cars past today. Spread some love. The fifth one just had to sit it out behind me - I do have a job to go to !

My commute was a lot worse than usual and I would class it as full on war. It took longer than usual, people were needlessly aggressive, lots of ‘MGIF’s and pushy behaviour. One person physically pushed past me. And it cost me more money than usual: I took the tube. Eugh.

I have a new idea for a BBC documentary - ‘The War on Britain’s public transport’- it will bea ‘fair, balancedand critical analysis’ of the abrupt and rude way people behave on the London underground (Both the users and the staff…). It’ll use public provided video footage of Friday night fights, racist slurs, CCTV of people falling to their death both from escalators and in to the path of oncoming trains. It will present these dangers as if they happen every day and therefore strike fear in to oyster card holders around the entirity of London.

The documentary will alsopresent the results of a recent questionnaire that demanded more resource is put in to stopping fare-evading skiing terrorists. GUYS, this type of skiing on the underground is happening all too often….

Generally not an issue with any vehicles yesterday. Most were considerate, some even amazingly so at one particular back lane which was a sheet of ice across the 2/3rds of the road for around 750m or so. The only clear spot was well over to the right hand hedge, so when a car came up from behind wanting to get passed, I just pointed to the ice, pointed to my throat with a throat slitting indication and stayed where I was on the wrong side of the road. they stayed put until I pulled back over when the ice sheet retreated and then carefully went around me. Not sure if they misinterpreted my signal (I'll kill you if..) or if they appreciated I was avoiding sheets of ice (don't want to commute to college on tourer and SMW's don't fit my road bike) anyhow, no revving of engine, no sitting on my tail, no trying to undertake me, just holding back. I said thank you with a thumbs up afterwards and carried on dodging ice...it was an interesting ride with the only options from a to b being back lanes that see lots of water and not much grit (despite one of them going straight past the salt mine).

One thing I have noticed is that around here, in broad daylight if I cycle without my hi-viz top on, they actually give me more room when passing me in the exaggerated "I've spotted a cyclist" approach than they do if I wear the hi-viz, but it comes into its own at night, rain, fog or dawn/dusk... (I'll still have front and rear lights on flashing mind you... I wear all black if I don't have my hi-viz on even down to buff and helmet.)

I can confirm that you were spotted .....firstly because of your Hi -Viz (could see you from about 1/4 mile behind) and then, as I got a bit closer, the sticker.
