How was your year of Cycling in 2025?

My worst year for a long time - a massive 30 miles in the whole year.
Sadly cycling became a poor loser to chemotherapy and radiotherapy for the other big C.
Any hope of regaining my fitness is going to take most of 2026 at best.

I am in the same boat but onwards and upwards!

All the best for 2026 even though it will be a long slog.

Up and down for me. Had a great pre season training and had big plans for the TT season, concentrating on the national 100, 12hr and 24hr championships. Had my first race in April with a course PB so was full of confidence for what lied ahead. Unfortunately a bad crash on a training ride at Easter (3 broken ribs, punctured lung and a smashed collarbone) put paid to any racing this year. Spent a lot of time on Zwift due to the injuries at the beginning of summer annoyingly, especially with the great weather we had. Finally got the go ahead to venture outside by mid June so just rode my bike as much as I could. At the start of the year I set a target of 12000 miles and after my lay off I didn’t think I’d of got anywhere near it. However my perseverance has paid off, I’ve got two more rides planned before the 31st and hopefully I’ll of passed my target, with 35 imperial centuries in amongst it.
Due to what happened quite a few of the miles were in the virtual world so a lot of people believe they shouldn’t count. I however believe they should, I still stress my body in the same way as I would outside.

All ebike now, the Odomoeter passing 20,000km today.
Shorter rides but still10k per year. Strangely , I have not been impacted by any frost here in the north east.
The shorter 3 hours or so rides means wet weather can be avoided, Newcastle being a fairly dry location.
Dry xmas day so might make an early start for that now rare long ride.

My cycling year has been absolute crap. Have only cycled twice since May. Firstly because of treatment for prostate cancer, but now that that has finished and I've been given the all-clear and have also come out of the weakness and lack of stamina phase, I am finding it difficult to get the motivation going.
Perhaps this is the worst time of the year to be starting riding again but I really hope that I can give myself a good kick up the ar*e to get on the bike again regularly.

Starting the year recovering from a serious hand injury meant I couldn't ride outside for some time. And only for short periods on the turbo trainer.

As a result plans were changed, meaning no London-Edinburgh-London (I volunteered instead) and no racing until the autumn. Instead I trained as a BC accredited race marshal, which meant I was standing with my lollipop at races.

The highlight was taking part in an organised tour of Brittany. However, family / work / illness / a major eye injury meant I only did one track race evening - although I did get a win.

Just under 5,000 miles covered with a few days left, which is my lowest total for years. I've got to do another 96 miles to reach the 5K and should do so.

Well done on the Marshalling. I nearly signed up to do the training but didn't want to commit to doing the number of races they mandated.

2025 - one ride so far, no excuse other than I'm getting old

So far just over 5,000 miles and 43 metric centuries. Only one imperial century though however did ride my first proper Col for some time, the Col de la Ramaz. But since it’s only the 25th still got the chance for a few more miles. Did fail to achieve my idea to ride double my age ( 140 miles)

Biggest year yet. Just over 2,500 miles and 128,500 ft of climbing, almost all of it offroad. One big tour of the Cotswolds, which was tough but enjoyable. My son came out with me a few times too, which is good to see. And bar a few days for Covid I had no injuries or significant illnesses so was consistent pretty much all year. Pretty pleased.

Well the year is still going, but so far it's been really good. For the last few years I've had an underlying issue that has affected my ability to complete the summer tours I've attempted. I've been completely fatigued after several days and generally had to abandon or shorten my trip. Earlier this year I discovered the cause of the problem was diet related and since changing things I've had no problems at all. So much so, that I undertook an off-road, gravel bike TransAlp, with no problems at all this summer.

In total, if the next week goes well, I should have covered just over 4000 km this year. Most of this will have been off-road and is just the sum total of my leisure rides, I don't track my commuting/utility riding which will probably be close to 2000km. As well as lots of cool day rides in the local area, I've also completed a few bikepacking trips, including a cool overnight trip, bivvying with a friend on the Heathland as we rode home from Hamburg. My main bike packing trip this year was a Gravel Bike TransAlp from Garmisch Partenkirchen in Southern Germany, through Austria, Switzerland and finishing at Lake Garda in Italy. Overall 430 km of riding and 9259m of height gain. Highest point was the famous Gavia Pass at 2652m high.

So overall a good year of cycling and looking forward to more of the same next year.

one thing I always remind myself at the start of a year, so that I never get bogged down in it at the end of a year, is its just ultimately a number, youll find others have ridden further than you, others will have ridden less.

but its just a number, it doesnt really matter, so ride as much or as little as you are able to do, the important thing is to ride, but also enjoy the ride doing it.

so my year had its ups and downs, on & off the bike, there are lots of things I still wanted to do riding wise but didnt, but I think Id give it a 7/10 overall for the cycling bits at least, I enjoyed riding more, and rode mostly consistently for most of the year, and that translated into more time riding and more distance than last year.

Dismal. Neither the road bike nor the hybrid moved and the pedelec hasn't moved since late August on a shopping or commuting ride. Factors being a dodgy knee, stupid weather and a water infection. Hopefully 2026 will see the 2024 A to Z pub name challenge completed belatedly; Exhibition (York), Yorkshire Hussar (Markington) and
Zoo (Northallerton).
