After Hornsea my legs ached, what l thought would be a 3-4 hour jaunt resulted in a 7 hour grind. Longest day in the saddle since spring.

West now to the Humber bridge. You join it as Hessle, a very nice little town from which the bridge is just a few mins.

I took the west side, no choice really as the east side was closed, l don't know why. This meant the same one way view both ways as the raised traffic mid section blocks the other.

Barton was horrible, like a Lancs mill town, l picked up bad vibes before l even made the High St, 2 altercations and a smashed wing mirror within 20 mins & l'd had enough of the place.

So back to lovely Hessel and on to Hull for more refreshments and to watch the tide come in. The Humber rises 7m & that mud had more calories in 1 sq/m than a Mars bar, now you know.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Barton's an 'interesting' place - one of my great-grandparents was from there. You missed turning onto the Water's Edge Nature Reserve with a nice cafe :okay:

From memory I've never seen the East side of the Humber Bridge open. Oh, and it's  on windy days.

I've been over both sides, and I think I've seen both sides open, but that may just have been the first stretch of both entrance ramps.

No idea why one side is open and not the other, or how the open side is picked.

Both entrance ramps are open, there was no sign to say the east side was closed so I rode up it only to find a large padlocked gate.
